I'm rarely wrong and I actually made a mistake once. I bought a pencil with an eraser on it.

Good advice!
They were saying fertilizers were all disgusting. Apparently, they think dirt is clean.

I was. Had no effect on me though! Oh, look! A flying puppy!
Soil - as opposed to dirt - should be alive, with bacteria, fungi, invertebrates, etc.. Chemical fertilizers and chlorinated water tend to kill a lot of that life.

Yes, right along side of his flying pig buddy.

Morning all... I could not get on the site all afternoon yesterday or last night! Now I'm up before the chickens (3:15 a.m. Here!).
site had crazy issues yesterday, be glad oyu couldnt get on

Woke up to hear this little one peeping and zipping 4 days early!
awesome!! sounds like it was a bit warm in there lol

Love seeing all the pix of the new chicks and the mom teaching hers to roost. I didn't know they do that.I've never had a broody hen or even incubated chicken eggs.I put up two roosts for my 2-2.5 month old chickens I just bought-6 Americaunas+1SexLink, all girls. I saw them on the low one once, but they prefer sleeping in a big box. It was all I had last week to put in their pen right away. They like to huddle together in it. I think they feel safer at night than on the roost, bc they don't know nothing can get them.Sorry, not a very good pic.
Welcome!!!

Well Gooserz is a girl and the Ancona drakes were not trying to kill her

poor gooserz!

Goodmorning peoples..... Hurt my arm AGAIN yesterday, (hoping it aint broken, 'cause I REFUSE to wear a cast in this weather) so I'm a slower typer today.
whatd you do to yourself?

Rabbit I agree with, but I thought horse needed to be composted?

Duck is supposedly able to be used fresh.
i think rabbit goat and alpaca/llama is ok fresh, horse and cow need to compost for a year, i mix my chicken poo in with the horse poo

Horse slaughter is illegal in the US........... I don't think outlawing it did the horses any favors.
I still wouldn't eat one!

agreed

I'd eat one. Animal rights people are usually a few fries short of a full crayon box.
they sure are

Not that I know of. It was more of the smacks later in life.
Lack thereof. Like you said, meat is meat.
That's usually what happens when they try to "help" the poor animals.
the problem with horse meat in the US is the drugs people give horses, and the affects it has on the horses meat and therefore to us
It would be different if the horse was raised to be slaughtered versus coming off the track or coming from a rescue or abandoned, who knows what that animal had ingested

I fell off a 4' ladder while building a chicken coop. When I came too I was standing by my tractor 20' away. How I got there and how long I was out I haven't a clue. One of several falls. When I told a friend what happened he told me his uncle fell off a step stool putting up Christmas lights and died on the spot.
scary

So I believe I have a shrink wrapped egg. I would like to be as much hands off as possible. It was under a hen that started pecking at the egg so I brought it inside. If i keep the membrane moistened should it hatch on its own?
not ready yet, and not shrink wrapped

It was under a hen but she started pecking at the egg & I didnt want her to kill it so I have it under a heat lamp.
be careful with heat lamps, they can get too hot, and will dry it out very quickly

how do you do that when it's under a hen? Yesterday was 92° and about 75% RH. So far this morning it's 66° and 81% RH outside
optimal incubation temp is 99.5* you dont monitor a broody they do it themselves

Oops, ma bad
Oh I know.

......
No worse than the junk they currently pump the animals full of.

@Chaos18 & @DwayneNLiz thank you. I never had this happen before so was not sure what to do. I put a thermometer where I have the babe and its at 98° and humidity is bouncing between 55% - 65%. I am making sure that it stays moistened
