That's awesome!

I am super anxious and check on them a couple times a night. I have to get some treats for them to retrain them into the coop at night.
It happens fast.
Or a ladder.
I had a few birds that all of a sudden decided to sleep on the roof of another pen. I had to use a ladder and net each night to retrieve them. I had moved the ladder and one night after locking up, I went to get the ladder. I got sidetracked and 20 minutes later I went to get the birds. I found one of the pullets hiding in the grass, one was dead, 2 were gone (never to return).

I had a rooster in a cage in the driveway right next to my porch at dusk. I was going to carry him inside when it got fully dark. I went out to get him and a raccoon had already pulled him through the cage.

It is battery. I need to figure out how to adjust it to close at a little lower light since it is under an overhang. The LUX reading said 250 is daylight, where it said 210 in the middle of the day yesterday when I installed it. Since they did OK yesterday I did not adjust it. I think if they are free ranging I need it adjusted as the push staying out longer than when they are locked in the run.
What brand are they?
After thinking long and hard on this, I decided against the dusk to dawn type. Sometimes if there's a bad storm moving in near dusk, the sky get's so dark I'm worried the door will close. Add to that most of the coops are under heavy shad and only get sunlight at dawn.
I'm not that concerned about opening times.
I'm going to base closing on date, time and latitude.
I found this algorithm for calculating.

Hi all. Just wondering if you can incubate eggs with calcium deposits on them????
Why? Because you think the issue is genetic? Or that there is a problem preventing those specific eggs from hatching?

I have two. One is a Chicken Guard Premium that is battery operated and can operate on light sensor or auto time set. The other is a Dawn till Dusk with the same features. I am curious to see how they do. I do want a second aluminum door from Dawn till Dusk. I like it.
got it

I'm thinking of using this for doors. It's lightweight but very strong and they can't chew a hole in it.

X2 Stick a bunch of fertile eggs in an incubator with a unreliable thermometer - BAM actual temp goes to 106 and you have instant and forever clears.

Typical male.

So if the egg is still in the nest with both parents, why your big concern?

You also misunderstood that I was trying to get you to hand raise it. I was just trying to help if there were no dove parents.

Ugh, grumpy. Sick and tired of these darn mosquitoes. They're so thick I was breathing them up my nose yesterday evening. Chores are miserable.

morning this is an experiment I'm working on using solar to power the coop, bought the kit from harbor frght, now task is to figure out how to make it work. I'll send more pictures as I get them and the camera cooperates

I am aiming for another 50 points up. It's gonna take time cause I really don't have open lines of credit open right now besides a car payment. That's our next step.
Good luck!!!

Haha, I wish that worked on my daughter, she'd just say "I'm their new family now." LOL

I have a mix of pygmy/spanish/milking goats. I am waiting to see if my adult spanish female is giving birth soon, so I can add to my flock and milk her... I paid 300 for her to be pregnant, but I'm not sure she is... She'd be due next month, but she's still skinny. :hmm

My little pgymies are super tame, for the most part, and between the three of them, I should get a decent amount of milk. I haven't decided exactly how big of a herd I want... but we've been discussing using them for meat, too down the road. We have the room to throw up a bigger goat pen, and we have a weekly goat auction here to sell extra if we end up with too many.

I just wanted the milk. the kids want to be "goat farmers" LOL
my SIL wants pygmys, i want to borrow them once she has them lol

She took the eggs.

MY spanish female on the left (Blueberry) , my billy (Mr. Pickles) on the right.

That's Vanna white, on top of her house.

Ebony.

Blueberry was breed with another spanish billy before we got her. So I was hoping to have a hybrid of pgymy/spanish goats. the spanish goat produces good milk, but the pgymies tend to be more sociable and smaller.

The goats love the chickens. They follow them around, and occasionally headbutt them, and I'll catch chickens riding around on their backs every now and then.
Cute!

Deet burns my skin. It also isn't a solution to the problem.
i dont think there is much of a solution to skeeters when you are surrounded by as much water as you are, i used the mosquito dunks and it helped a lot

I've been looking at DIY bat boxes and Martin houses. I'm also going to cut some brush close to the house today. A friend in New Orleans area had good luck with the electric dyna trap. I have it set up, but no luck yet. It's supposed to break the life cycle within 4-6 weeks.

The parish comes and sprays if the weather conditions are right, but that's also only a temporary fix.

Tell the parish to hurry up so you don't perish.
