I think our chicken obsession is rubbing off my husband. He just told me he wanted a couple malay, or java chickens, because the hens are "brutal and will protect the flock better than any rooster."

:hmm

Well, a chick hatched. Unfortunately he looks to have the same issues that we had with our hatch last spring. There was a bunch of yucky gunk that came out of the shell with him and his navel is bloody. His abdomen looks swollen too.  I think I will try and take him out in a few hours and get him eating and drinking. I think that helped the chicks I had last Spring.  They all survived, so I hope this one will also.

My husband assured me that he cleaned the incubator thoroughly with bleach, so not sure why we are still having this issue. I guess that explains the poor hatch though. :-(

Isn't that high humidity?

He'll be big enough to eat the gutter ducks by that point! Besides, as soon as they drop he gets the chop!

I've been teaching him to "sit" so he follows me around and if I stop, he sits and stare at me with his little ears up. So now I'm carrying dog food in my pocket.

I pray they have dropped!!! they should way before now. six weeks they usually are some closer to 7 but usually already down. dog food much better than raw liver snacks in a pocket
Or Carp dough

YUP...... Almost broke a shovel a few times getting them boulders out!! You shoulda seen how long it took to get my garden usable!

Since I live at the bottom of a mountain my neighbor behind us she grinds the rocks with her lawn mower she just had to buy new blades because her back yard is nothing but rocks. So there isn't much swerving you can do.

Mrleeroy dug up a rock in my garden that weighs a ton! It's about eighteen inches wide, ten long, and three deep. I'm thinking of painting it when I come up with a name for the garden. Or just the name of my little farm.
