QUESTION! I have three eggs that are pipping at the wrong end! What should I do? I read not to intervene for 24 hrs. But I was not sure if that also applies to pipping at the wrong end! Do I need to assist or leave them alone till tomorrow morning. The first one pipped over 12 hrs ago and has not changed much.

She sat in a hot bath for a while too. I just wish I knew how to help her stop coughing at bedtime... That is when it's worse!

What kind of thermometer/hygrometer do you guys use?
Is there one that is really accurate without having to check it? I don't think I'm good at stuff like that. Lol
For a thermometer, I use both a Brinsea Spot check and an instant read ThermoWorks pocket probe.

Super-Fast® Pocket Thermometer with Cal Adjust (RT301WA)
Both similarly priced but I like the thermoworks one better but the brinsea is really good.

For a hygrometer I use a gram scale. I don't care what the humidity is. I regulate based on how much moisture is lost.
They should lose 0.65% weight per day regardless of the porosity of eggs.

...

Setting eggs - I didn't think I was going to set any more, but since my silkies are so hard to sex - they have had roosters in the mix longer than the other chickens have. We found our resident silkie brooder sitting on a dozen eggs. She was there for at least 3 days - I didn't want to try to eat the eggs, so I put them into a 'bator. We'll see what happens.
I have eggs due in 3 days that I haven't candled.
Counting chicks and adults I have over 60 birds.
I'm not setting again until the roosters I'm moving this week have been with their respective flocks for at least a month. By then, some of the pullets' eggs may be reaching appropriate size for hatching.

Most I've had pip at the wrong end hatched just fine. But that is just my experience.
