How did the parents take that?

@campingshaws as far as the snakes, make sure to keep weeds trimmed, dont give them a place to hide (like rock piles, wood piles, etc) and eggs collected asap
and wear real boots that are tall, steel toe, snake proof maybe

I, on the other hand give snakes and lizards lots of places to hide.

That's all standard. Parts of the pond are right next to the dining hall, so we want it safe. We also kill every single snake we see (if it's in the pond or too close to the chickens. Others get to live!). BUT there are still tons of them around.

The only snakes I've killed in my life were poisonous ones around buildings.
Killing snakes is how rodents get out of control.

I'm afraid of what you must think makes me happy!!

Do you raise your chickens and turkies together? I thought there was extreme health risks to have both? (Or, that's what I was told when I expressed an interest in maybe having turkeys/peacocks too.)

I believe that's' what were having too. Some kind of seasoned boneless pork. LOL Is it bad that everytime I eat bacon, or pork, I want to convince him we need our own pigs, because bacon's too expensive in the store?

We only kill poisonous snakes too.

We had a snake get into my house a few weeks back.

Once I determined it wasn't dangerous, I made my son help me catch it and put it back outside near the garbage can. LOL

I don't have much in the way of poisonous snakes either so I have lots of rock walls and wood piles

Never getting pigs, a local vet told me about a man who fell down unconscious in the pig pen...... They ate him alive.

you definitely don't want to let them alone with other animals... LOL but some pigs are cute... not the ones we eat, but pot bellied pigs are adorable.
