So 3 chicks total have hatched from this batch.  I'm going to float test the rest of them and see if I get any movement because they are going on about 3 days late hatching as of today.  Do ya'll hatch through the winter?  I was thinking this would be my last attempt at hatching in my incubator since it will start to get cold in a couple weeks and I am not set up to have indoor chickens! lol  I live in the panhandle of Texas and the average first freeze is October 15th.

And I got some new boxes to add to my coop so maybe my girls will lay on their own eggs!!

@mlm MikeShe said we do get it here, I'm not sure what she saw to go with the treatment she gave me, but she said she would not be improving if it was the worm. I will ask her another time what made her go the other direction.

Well, I candled my eggs, and 1 had a blood ring, so I tossed it.
Out of the 7 remaining, 4-5 look viable, with blood veins, and a couple look clear, but have dark spots that developed, so i'll give them a little chance to catch up. if they continue to change and look like they are developing, i'll keep them in there. I should know more in a few days. I'm crossing my fingers that the 4-5 that are developing, will hatch. When I get my bigger incubator, I may try a bigger batch of silkie eggs, and duck eggs together.

Unless they are close in size you will have trouble getting the aircells right.

I was thinking about it.

What kind of goats are these?......

The very first year I had a deer permit when I was young and after coming in from the woods the first day, my dad and I went to town and dropped by the check station to see how many deer had been brought in. Deer weren't plentiful then. The game warden told us about the first two hunters that came in that morning. They were so proud and beaming to be the first to check in on opening day. When they opened their trunk, there were 2 dead goats in there.
I think one should be able to identify one's quarry and differentiate from other species before they should be able to buy a hunting license.

Around the same time, I read in Field & Stream or Outdoor Life magazine about a deer hunter who shot a horse out from under a game warden.

It's weird talking to people on here and not knowing what you all look like! Some of you have a pic of yourself as your avatar but some don't. I would like to see who everybody is!!!!!
Perhaps it is TMI.

No antlers.... There is another setting back in the woods.... But not much time left. Was fun anyways...... They are in good shape going into winter this year
Quote:
I messed up... I just looked at the rules... They don't need antlers.... Dang
It was always a one week antlered deer only season when I was growing up. There's so many deer now that it has become complicated. So many different seasons - some antler only some antlerless only. A youth only, a few archery, an alternative methods like atlatl, a muzzloader season. Some of those seasons allow multiple permits to be filled.
They have achieved their goal of cutting the population to the point that lengths of some antlerless seasons are reduced this year.

Wish I had a video. We've tried to trap the coon before, I think it's time to hide on the roof with a ....... shovel...... I'm warning my neighbors to keep their cats inside, gonna try the trap again with some wet and dry cat food.
THE coon? Like there is only one?
I can't tell you how many times my trail cam has caught a parade of raccoons walking past.

...

Im starting to think besides Cynthia I am the oldest female on this thread!!!
Hasn't Drumstick Diva been on here before?

lets just say the 28 year old son is the oldest, or is he 29 now? DOH but I feel really old because I started with kids all over again
Second litters are tiring.
My daughter is 28 and son is 26.

I have grandkids almost as old as your oldest son, youngin'
I'm almost your age and have no grandkids. Probably not for a while yet.
It's our generations long family history to have children much later in life. Most generations didn't know their grandparents.
One of my daughter's best friends got pregnant freshman year of high school. As bad as that was, it had an impact on my daughter. She said she's never having kids. I don't know if she'll stick with that forever.

Can't find any good pics..... It's getting dark now and I here a wolf in the distance. (not close).....but i need to get to my truck and go home.... See ya
Nice catch!

They don't have to be exciting to be good!!! I just love to remember, listen and learn about how things used to be..... Everything is so impersonal these days. One of my favorite things still is to get a hand written letter or postcard in the mail-not email text or facebook message!
texts GRRR!

Or a smile missing front teeth.

I think, my obsession with wanting another baby, is letting me transfer that "energy" into incubation. I told my husband I wanted ducks and all he could say is "okay" when I told him we got a new incubator coming from his mom LOL

He did say we could start trying for another baby. I want 3-4 more! LOL But, with my infertility issues... I'm using the "I NEED babies" urges, on chickens... and maybe duck eggs in the future.

I hate to say it makes me glad chickens kind of die a lot, because it gives me an excuse to keep putting eggs in the incubator.
Practicing is the best part.

I never wanted kids....Weird huh??? So i married one lol-robbed the cradle!!!! But he's the greatest

I am a very lucky woman!!!
There's too many people on the planet already anyway.

I just love how guys don't know certain girl lingo-like diffuser. My husband has perfect spiraled hair and he gets mad when he wants to wear it down and it's humid so i said "honey get a diffuser" and his response was exactly like @mlm Mike
How would we?
There are probably guy things girls don't know too.

I was thinking light diffuser as in photography and wondered what was wrong with the back ground lighting.

That's what I thought.

Here I thought back east was getting lots of rain. Our last may have been May. It's not unusual to go without from May till October. Anything in between those months really don't count as a rain.
I don't think we've gone a week since early spring without some rain.

Mike I didn't know that you are brown and white!

Good one.

Winter is coming! Yessssss!
How cold does it get?

What if you have a freak storm in the Spring? Does it automatically revert to Winter?
I was mistaken. I had reported that we had seen our last 90F day of the year. Lo and behold, the next 3 days will be 90, At least, unlike summer, it is finally cooling down at night.
