@mlm MikeI asked what else she saw to help me learn though experience is the key I am sure in diagnosing. She said they all show up clearly in the rear first (Listeriosis, Pollio, a number of other neurological problems, and the worm. Pollio is easiest to treat, Listeriosis less so, and the worm is often fatal even with treatment. Thus with her having eyes that weren't quite right along with her mentation. Thus we start with this and if she doesn't continue to improve try to treat for the worm.
She stood up much more normally this morning and was much more mobile last night than she was the day before. Treat, observe as much as I can, and wait. I also need to read up on mentation.

Why is that? I see people put eggs of different breeds in the incubators together.... wouldn't it be more of an issue with hatching at the same time?
@mlm Mike@Sally Sunshine Maybe they can help. I just remember a conversation about it and humidity due to size differences.

Ahoy, Mateys!

THE coon? Like there is only one?
I can't tell you how many times my trail cam has caught a parade of raccoons walking past.
Well, there was only one this time. Cat sized so probably a baby from this spring's births. Usually we'll only see one at a time out here. At least I've only seen one at a time.

Quote: I wasn't questioning her skill, you have mentioned she breeds, shows, judges goats shows.Hopefully she'll say you don't have that in your area. I just ask because Meningeal starts at the rear, while Goat Polio and Listeria typically start at the head, and you had mentioned that Listeria, goat polio, and a few other possibilities.
Here is the worming treatment if it does end up being a possibility (It can't be positively identified without necropsy, so hopefully the doe gets better and you don't find out with 100% certainty)

The curative treatment (treatment for infected goats displaying symptoms) has changed in 2013. Very high dosages of fenbenzadole (Safeguard/Panacur or equivalent) at a dosing rate of ten times the label dosage. Liquid Safeguard's label dose is 2.3 cc (ml) per 100 pounds bodyweight, which means that you must multiply this by 10 and dose at 23 cc (ml) per 100 pounds bodyweight. You can use Safeguard paste, also dosing at ten times the label's dosage rate based upon the goat's body weight. Treatment is given once a day for five consecutive days. Ivermectin was eliminated from the curative treatment protocol because researchers at Ohio State University found that it didn't penetrate the spinal column to kill the worms, so once neurological symptoms appeared, using Ivermectin was ineffective. If the goat is down and can't get up on its own, the chance for recovery is not good. An anti-inflammatory drug like Banamine can be useful in alleviating the inflammation of nerve tissue. Dexamethasone may also be used, but it will cause abortions in pregnant does.

I had a 3-4 month old buck I'd raised since birth. He was the picture of health one day; an hour later he was dead as a hammer.

I was thinking about it.
What kind of goats are these?...... :lau
The very first year I had a deer permit when I was young and after coming in from the woods the first day, my dad and I went to town and dropped by the check station to see how many deer had been brought in. Deer weren't plentiful then. The game warden told us about the first two hunters that came in that morning. They were so proud and beaming to be the first to check in on opening day. When they opened their trunk, there were 2 dead goats in there. I think one should be able to identify one's quarry and differentiate from other species before they should be able to buy a hunting license. Around the same time, I read in Field & Stream or Outdoor Life magazine about a deer hunter who shot a horse out from under a game warden.
It's weird talking to people on here and not knowing what you all look like! Some of you have a pic of yourself as your avatar but some don't. I would like to see who everybody is!!!!!
Perhaps it is TMI.
:hugs No antlers.... There is another setting back in the woods.... But not much time left. Was fun anyways...... They are in good shape going into winter this year
Quote:
I messed up... I just looked at the rules... They don't need antlers.... Dang
It was always a one week antlered deer only season when I was growing up. There's so many deer now that it has become complicated. So many different seasons - some antler only some antlerless only. A youth only, a few archery, an alternative methods like atlatl, a muzzloader season. Some of those seasons allow multiple permits to be filled. They have achieved their goal of cutting the population to the point that lengths of some antlerless seasons are reduced this year.
Wish I had a video. We've tried to trap the coon before, I think it's time to hide on the roof with a ....... shovel...... I'm warning my neighbors to keep their cats inside, gonna try the trap again with some wet and dry cat food.

... Im starting to think besides Cynthia I am the oldest female on this thread!!!
Hasn't Drumstick Diva been on here before?
:D lets just say the 28 year old son is the oldest, or is he 29 now? DOH but I feel really old because I started with kids all over again
Second litters are tiring. My daughter is 28 and son is 26.
I have grandkids almost as old as your oldest son, youngin'
I'm almost your age and have no grandkids. Probably not for a while yet. It's our generations long family history to have children much later in life. Most generations didn't know their grandparents. One of my daughter's best friends got pregnant freshman year of high school. As bad as that was, it had an impact on my daughter. She said she's never having kids. I don't know if she'll stick with that forever.
Can't find any good pics..... It's getting dark now and I here a wolf in the distance. (not close).....but i need to get to my truck and go home.... See ya
Nice catch!
They don't have to be exciting to be good!!! I just love to remember, listen and learn about how things used to be..... Everything is so impersonal these days. One of my favorite things still is to get a hand written letter or postcard in the mail-not email text or facebook message!
texts GRRR!
except for a smile while sipping on a nice red wine:lau
Or a smile missing front teeth.
I think, my obsession with wanting another baby, is letting me transfer that "energy" into incubation. I told my husband I wanted ducks and all he could say is "okay" when I told him we got a new incubator coming from his mom LOL He did say we could start trying for another baby. I want 3-4 more! LOL But, with my infertility issues... I'm using the "I NEED babies" urges, on chickens... and maybe duck eggs in the future. I hate to say it makes me glad chickens kind of die a lot, because it gives me an excuse to keep putting eggs in the incubator.
Practicing is the best part.
I never wanted kids....Weird huh??? So i married one lol-robbed the cradle!!!! But he's the greatest:love I am a very lucky woman!!!
There's too many people on the planet already anyway.
I just love how guys don't know certain girl lingo-like diffuser. My husband has perfect spiraled hair and he gets mad when he wants to wear it down and it's humid so i said "honey get a diffuser" and his response was exactly like @mlm Mike
How would we? There are probably guy things girls don't know too.
I was thinking light diffuser as in photography and wondered what was wrong with the back ground lighting. :gig
That's what I thought.
Here I thought back east was getting lots of rain. Our last may have been May. It's not unusual to go without from May till October. Anything in between those months really don't count as a rain.
I don't think we've gone a week since early spring without some rain.
Mike I didn't know that you are brown and white! :lau
Good one. :D
Winter is coming! Yessssss!
How cold does it get?
What if you have a freak storm in the Spring? Does it automatically revert to Winter?
I was mistaken. I had reported that we had seen our last 90F day of the year. Lo and behold, the next 3 days will be 90, At least, unlike summer, it is finally cooling down at night.
Every winter we have a day or 2 that the temp wil ho down to a staggering 3C! normally the temp in January is araound 10C.
