Go to tractor supply and see what they have, check the date code on the bottom of the bag and let us know.

What's the importance of date code on the bags?

I'll stop my TSC when I take my daughter to church today, just to see what they've got so I can figure out over the weekend what I need to get on monday or tuesday afternoon before they get here on wed.

If I get a second tub for a brooder, to seperate the ducks/poults, the heat lamp should be enough to warm up both if I had them side by side. It's really hot in the room, I usually have it off except from like midnight to 6am. Otherwise, it gets to be like 110 in the room.

As to feed, I'm just trying to figure out the most cost effective/easiest way of feeding them while we get it figured out what type of shelter/pens we want to build for them and where we want them to go. I find that having them for a while and getting to know them, lets me "picture" what kind of housing I want them to have. (i.e. free range, where they have access to everything, or a penned kennel type situation with minimal free roaming.

My husband suggested keeping the girls penned, and letting the toms roam, stating he didn't think they'd go too far from the girls. LOL

But, who knows. I know our chickens don't try to escape so far. (knock on wood) and they free range in a designated area that's super fenced.

Between goats, chicks, and layers in personal coops and camp properties, I have up to five different feed bags open at a time. It seems pretty simple to me, but the staff all seemed to have trouble.
Add in horse feed, weight gainer for a hard keeper, beet pulps, and other crap... yep. I feel you. That's why adding 2-3 more bags was like... "ugh" LOL

@kajira , the reason I suggested that you go to TSC and see what they have is that my TSC has a 30% game bird starter, but the bags are often 6 moths old, which is too old IMO. They also have Flock Raiser, which is sometimes 2-3 months old.

Oooh... you mean expired feed. That makes sense. Yeah, I can check dates on the bag. they tend to run out of stuff and have to restock stuff constantly.... our TSC is tiny and there's a lot of demand for feed.

The Flock Raiser and game bird aren't big sellers, so it sits on the shelf for a long time!

-Kathy
The flock raiser, (the red bag that was linked earlier.)

This works for chicks/ducks?

And then get a poult feed for the turkeys?

(Just organizing it in my brain so I can make a list of what I need when I go.)
