INCUBATING w/FRIENDS! w/Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs No problem!

Okay. I'm at the point today, where I need to make the choice to order those silkie eggs, and ducks/turkeys if I want them... I have until about lunch time to make the decision and send the payments. Yikes....

I'm undecided. IF I do it, I need to go get a second brooder tub, just to separate the ducks/poults... and since they have 90cent sex-linked females, I might by a few... my husbands going to kill me.
oh just get them all at once, tell him to go buy a gun or something lol
So this chick (replying to Sally's response about the yolk and vein relation) had pip'd and struggled for 24hrs... It then hit a vein, which (since I put a webcam on the incubator) saw while playing games for eggs. I blotted it with paper towel, put it back. (So many issues last time, main thing, don't help unless you absolutely have too) so I let her struggle another 6 hours maybe, and noticed the membrane seemed stuck to her head, and so checked it out, it was, and her wing apparently. After that was fixed and she was put back she popped out around 3am PST this morning. I got woke up by the little chicks racket. I just rinsed it off now, got a good look at that "scrape" and I can't tell if that's it or a deformity. It's got a few layers, the darker skin, then light pink, then a kind of grayish color toward center, which to me would be bone... I bundled the baby back up, put back in cup, back in the bator.

2 eggs left in there, both tiny, could be Pheasant or Could be Serama. One just pip'd. Hopefully the Hedemora chick gets comfy in the cup, because I need to go to work (and worry about it all day lol)...

hahahha!

Decisions, Decisions. The one advantage, to house chickens, is we have a very old, drafty house, so a lot of bugs get inside our house.

Maybe, with house chickens, we won't have as many (or any?) bugs in our house anymore? We get fire flies, nothing like going to sleep at night, and seeing them light up all over your room in the middle of the night.

And spiders, and the occasional ant, but it's really the moths, and itty bitty gnat-style bugs that get in, that drive me crazy.

I don't even know how they do it. We've sealed off all the windows that have AC units, to try to plug up any holes, and they STILL get it. :hmm

We have also had lizards, and scorpions get in, too. I don't think a chicken would eat those though, or I could be wrong.

My daughter doesn't bother to sleep in her bed, so I may just move the pillows, and set it in her room at the end of the bed.

She sleeps with her brother, in his bed, because she doesn't like sleeping alone. whodathunk a almost 6 year old could squeeze herself into a toddler bed. but she manages it.

:hmm

It's this kind of destruction that prevents me from wanting to deal with the mess at the table :

He shares his food with the cats/dogs... it's just easier if it's only one surface to clean! LOL
lol so cute!

mornin Peter

Thanks Sally and metel For the help
of course

Not a fan of scorpions?  the ones here, are luckily not very dangerous. My husband's been bit by a couple when moving old logs outside. It stung a little, and his tongue tingled. LOL

Many years ago girlfriends mom got one of those scorpions up her pants after gardening. Dropped her pants on the spot.

Have you tried bug zappers? I put a small bucket wired under it and feed the days haul to the chickens.
