omg I'm so happy I won ayam cimani eggs
I thought you weren't allowed to incubate more eggs and you had to sell a bunch of your birds? Is this true?

Don't we all.
They are and vulnerable to hawks so need other breeds as protectors.
They taste just like chicken. The neighbor's dogs said the same thing.
That was the last story I heard.
The thing that bugs me is people getting outstanding stock of an extremely rare breed and being unprepared to do them justice.
I've grown very selective when deciding who gets my birds.

With multiple flocks and multiple dominant cockerels do you have to worry about them fighting? As creatures of habit, they will return to where they've safely slept for some time.
Occasionally I get some drift but it is rare. I have 3 flocks that have been free ranging for several months and they keep to their own parts of the property though they occasionally merge and will always go back to their own buildings at night. I'm about to add another flock of about 20 younger birds to the mix. I'm sure they will all still go back to their own buildings at night. My only concern is that the rooster in an adjacent building has been trying to get at the younger birds so that is the only unknown now.
I did have birds in different buildings this summer and every couple days, a hen would leave the flock to join another till there was only a pair left in the other building. This is the first time I've seen that happen on such a grand scale.
My biggest challenge has always been to get birds to take to a new building after being moved. They'll pace constantly to try to get to their original home at night.
I'm letting them all run together for a bit to help control vegetation and cut feed costs since I'm not setting eggs again till probably December.
I'll separate flocks a month before then.

Quote: I owe her alot, she is there for me to watch kids and do anything all the times I am sick, these past years have been hell I cant imagine her not being around. I hope I can pay it back some time.
Paddler,
I am extremely happy I got rid of what I had to be honest. Glad the legbar, brahma, wellsumers etc are gone. I did keep the broody brahma that raised the chicks though. I figured she may come in handy now and she is quite the protective mother.
Mikes Icelandics that are growing out are amazing looking, love the looks, the flightiness doesnt bother me, as I dont make friends anyways, and its best for them to be cautious here when free ranging. the polish and serama are the kiddos, I kept the Marans so I had some cool layers. I just wish I could find some good quality like these that also lay a very very dark egg. I havent dwelled on it, after the crap I have to go through during the winter perhaps comespring I can search for some to add. Sara did bring me a pair of crele lemon orpingtons, they are where the ducks used to be for now. separated from everyone else. Not sure what to do with them, they are kinda cool but pretty young yet. So you can see I really really cut back the chicken population here. its so quiet too. unless I walk out and the goose and goats catch sight or hear me.

no I want BCM the birds I have are amazing and from quality I just think the eggs are too light and speckled is a fault I think although I do love the egg from one hen, they just are not right. but thank you.
You see ever since I had White faced black spanish I am a sucker for a black chicken
