Since chicks grow so fast just remember to keep checking the zip tie so it doesn't get to tight and cut there leg off.

Sounds like you had a busy day with more fun to come tomorrow.

Will do! I'll make sure it isn't tight in the first place

Very busy, lots of walking. I enjoy my bird tending though. So much drama!

Quote: Our archery season's been open for a month, but it's been so hot & I've been so busy that I haven't been out yet, which is a shame, considering I only have to go to the end of the yard to the box blind. Mule loader's my favorite season, though, (even over rifle season) & it comes in this next month.

Is that why you scrape your field, rather than mow it, starve out wildfires?

That's a big yes. I also rototill when I get the attachment put on. I've got it down pretty well on the scraping though. There's still so many areas I can't reach due to the terrain here but I get a bunch of it. Scrapings go into compost pile. It's big.

Morning Whites

Almost forgot. I can see the snakes better that way as well.

do you use probiotics in the feed or water? or ACV with the mother in water? was it the one with the yolk that needed some aborbtion yet? sometimes that dont let the poop slide lol. there is a good read here if you get time!! Quick lesson on pasty butt post #4657
Quote: you try to lock up before they are in the coops? I always wait for them to find their homes. Ive never had issues lettting them free range, they know their homes, unless they havent been in them long enough.

Hey y'all! I haven't been on in forever! Are we still discussing hatching here? I've got a broody on 9 eggs. Was 10 but she pushed one out. It was a quitter.

We're on day 18 so I just candled. We have 8 definite live chicks! Could even see them moving. Yay yay yay! The 9th one looks like a blood ring. Was going to make certain first. Brownie is an odd hen. I'm not sure of her breed. But so far, she's an excellent mama. I'm grateful for that. Hope everyone is doing well.
A special hello to Ms. Sally Sunshine!

God bless,
Glory

Ps...ill send a pic of Brownie soon and maybe someone can shed some light on her breed.

I also have a broody due tomorrow. One chick out already but I think there was an egg under at the time I gave her more. Although I had emptied the nest that day
