My Brownie has 5 out of her 9 eggs with external pips!!! Yay! Sooooooo ESTATIC!!

Also,I see I've come in during an interesting conversation. I'll have to agree that the 70's were a very different time period. I was born in 1978 and grew up in the 80's. Yay me! Just in enough time for my parents to raise me right. When the belt was still legal and my parents had no problem sparing not thy rod. I'm very thankful to them. Dignity, morals, high standards, honesty, loyalty, color blindness, respect,a grateful attitude, work ethics, dependability and loving and serving my Merciful Savior were all things that were deeply instilled in me. And I'm very very proud of where I come from. If only these things were as important now a days....our nation would benefit greatly and be oh so different. Hope y'all don't mind my involving myself into your discussion.

For the first time in a while I was able to put my chickens up before they got too high for me to reach. Heard a big ruckus, ran outside, 3 were out again and 1 was tangled from trying to get out. ~sigh~. Chickens all back out and happily perched in their spots on top of the run.

I may have saved a dumb chicken's life this morning. I was outside the juvie run counting beaks, trying to get an idea of who was where they belong after yesterday's "all hands" free range episode. At the far end, behind a cinder block they like to perch on, I spotted a bird that wasn't moving. I couldn't see its head from where I was. I went to it and saw that it had gotten it's head stuck in a narrow place between the block & a chain link panel covered with welded wire...part of the adjacent run. He got his head in, but was too dumb to get it out! I moved the block & he took off, none the worse for the experience. Good thing I happened to be there.

Oh oh oh my goodness! I've had similar things happen to my goats!!! So so grateful that you were there...before anything bad took place. Awesome outcome!!

:gig Interesting discovery of the day... The best way to catch a skittish cockerel is to catch a hen first. He'll come on the double!!

Apology offered upfront for length. I typically do not qoute on readbacks. Seemed to hit a spot with me tonight and got me going for a bit. I actually took some of them off. Now I'm off the see how many people on the HAL thread are trying to encourage me to go against my thoughts. After that I have nursery furniture to strip and prep for paint. Catch yall in the morning. :frow
I'm sure he didn't start out with one that large. He probably started with a 10 gal. & worked his way up as he could afford it.
You are correct. started with a 10g and added a few more that size before I actually moved down. Had several 5g set up as guppy breeder tanks. Decided it was too much work and consolidated.
meant to say thanks! Ever had any experience with a DIY incubator?
Welcome
Maybe I'm showing my age but what ever happened to the good old days when you had a kid that kept asking why, why why?????? And an adult would reply "because I said so" and the kids would stop asking because they had respect for rules and authority???????
Unfortunately alot of that lack of respect has found its way into the military.
Im a firm speaker of those words lol my kids hate me most times. I am a mean mom I am told.
However, how often do you get compliments on how well behaved they are in public. I suspect alot more than the parent of the kid kicking and screaming in the toy section of WM.
I would be considered a young buck by most here but I tell that to my 6 yr old and he stops asking questions. I also add in "and I make the rules in this house".
Likewise.
Not sure what happened... -Kathy
I have decided to classify it as unearned/undeserved expectations.
That's creepy.
I always figured that "because I said so" was not an answer; I didn't like hearing it when I was a kid (like I was too dumb to understand just because I was a kid), so I didn't make a habit of using that one. I'll admit to swatting my son a few times, but never with a fist, like I was subjected to (another sad story unto itself). Don't know that I ever laid a hand on my daughter; I pretty much left her discipline up to her mother. And "time out" hadn't been invented when we were raising kids. Overall, I have to say we had a couple of well behaved kids. They never heard "just wait 'til I get you home", or "your father will deal with you later". We weren't ashamed or afraid to take them anywhere in public; they were raised better than that. It was another whole world in the 70's, before the gov't decided they knew more about raising kids than parents did.
And I believe that to be a major part of the problem. I know they will be eventually be free and on there own but theres a reason my kids are homeschooled.

I worked once for a guy who raised Scotch Highland cattle; the ones with the shaggy coats & horns like a Texas Longhorn. He fed round bales inside a tube steel ring that kept them from trampling hay into the ground. One of the guys showed up for work one morning & there stood one of them with his head stuck in the ring in such a way that he couldn't lay down. He must've been there a while, 'cause his legs were getting wobbly from supporting his weight, possibly all night. I hate to think of his fate if he hadn't been discovered when he was. I don't remember whether we had to cut the ring or were able to turn his head & work the horns free.
