totally jealous of all your eggs.

:hmm

I'm lucky to get 1 per day, maybe 2 on a good day.

my EE's need to finish growing up and start laying.

I got my red sex linked, so hopefully they lay well....
I had done red sex links but that didn't go well

I don't have egg customers. Most eggs go back to the flock.
I have 4 kids and a husband who can easily consume a dozen eggs or more per day, if we had enough to actually do it. LOL

We also make homemade dog food, and we use eggs, and shells for vitamins in that, too.

How many birds do you have?

For the first time in a while I was able to put my chickens up before they got too high for me to reach. Heard a big ruckus, ran outside, 3 were out again and 1 was tangled from trying to get out. ~sigh~. Chickens all back out and happily perched in their spots on top of the run.
LOL, that stinks sorry

LOL. Only one Dr. other than "their" physician in our whole hospital system treats my injury and i can't get in to see him until 10/18. It's ok because after reading numerous articles and best practice, most initial treatment is immobilization and anti inflammatory drugs anyway and I'm doing that.depending on the severity when he see me and the MRI, I will still be in the window for surgery if necessary. It hurts-not gonna lie but I am coping well and usually do ok with pain management for the most part. Thanks for checking up on me-it is what it is and I'm not going to worry-everything happens for a reason and this to shall pass

Now on to better news-BCMs are thriving and the 2 seramas that pipped hatched while I was at work, 1 more has pipped and so far 1 icelandic & 1 cream legbar have pipped too! Happy hatching for this girl!!!

Congrats on Pippers!! and fuzz butts!!

I may have saved a dumb chicken's life this morning. I was outside the juvie run counting beaks, trying to get an idea of who was where they belong after yesterday's "all hands" free range episode. At the far end, behind a cinder block they like to perch on, I spotted a bird that wasn't moving. I couldn't see its head from where I was. I went to it and saw that it had gotten it's head stuck in a narrow place between the block & a chain link panel covered with welded wire...part of the adjacent run. He got his head in, but was too dumb to get it out! I moved the block & he took off, none the worse for the experience. Good thing I happened to be there.
LOL!!!

I've got an issue in one of the chicken eggs. It looks like it's only 3/4 full and today is day 19. The empty part is about an inch wide and goes from aircell to the point of the egg. I've never seen anything like it.

Local egg, from a girl across the highway. I was suspecting flock health/nutrition as a culprit already. Set upright and tilted several times a day, because that's what I was doing for everyone else. Embryo is still kicking. The other one looks great. The cochins have extra thick shells I guess and still look like day 14 AC. I've been running about 25% humidity except for those two days it was 30-45%. Temp has been steadyish, 101.5-102 except for that big 105.6 spike and a couple 103s.

Also, I'm not convinced the cam is right on the duck eggs. Looks awfully empty down there. They are also day 19.

i am going to try ducks next

Oh, I can bend it alright.... Just a bit tricky to do it with three or four fingers 'cause your others are busy keeping the HWC from claiming more digits.

I use gloves most of the time, but today they were MIA.
barnie.gif
pretty sure your gloves were missing last time you did this too

where is that
OMG, did you really just say that?

how can I get there
swim

Evening ppls... Just opened one of my shipped eggs today... Coronation Sussex... Look at these!

Nicest eggs I've received yet, I think. They look fake almost. Very heavy eggs, hope that's a good thing...

So, paid for 6, got 10, two behemoths... The average size egg is at the top of the picture... The extra large eggs...could they pose an issue when it comes to incubating them? I'm not sure my turner will be able to handle this set (smoothly)
great looking eggs! Good Luck!!!

Had a similar experience on the farm I worked on as a kid. Steer got his head stuck in an empty feeder ended up on the pond and broke thru the ice.
Oh no!! that stinks, was anyone around to get him out ( i doubt it but i'm curious)

Got up to do laundry. BOTH kids woke up this time. And I was so quiet! I didn't even turn lights on.

Bubba had peed the bed so now we're all on the sofa.
hmm.png
Oh no, bad bubba, that stinks
quite literally
hugs.gif

now more laundry for you lol

Where they banty cochins? Higher humidty is great for smaller eggs, like silkies and banties, because they lose too much weight otherwise. Mine are giant cochin eggs from my own flock, and I've hatched lots of them. Even with the low humidity they didn't lose enough weight and the AC are still smallish. That is my concern.

I threw them in with the ducks for funsies. I'm meeting the needs of the duck eggs, first and foremost. Any chicken eggs that survived the journey are just lagniappe.

Liz, you have a uniqueness about you...

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Assuming they are human, aren't all humans sex linked?
hu.gif

It wasn't done. I was on my phone.
i hope you enjoy my kind of unique
i am not looking forward to the readback, but i like going to camp
lol, my little BIL was a girl until he was handed to his dad, and his dad was like...ummmmm isnt that a .....
very sorry, i hope its done now?

The dog just walked down the hall, and vomited in about four places.

There is no dog happier than that of an owner that processes. Sturgis got to devour the icky parts of the chicken I had cooked yesterday.

Chaos knows that I was trying to catch up, but kept sending me private messages anyway.

I caught my turkey yesterday. She is now in with her brooder mates. The Pekin that co-raised them has returned to the laying next to their run. She is the only one left from that group that is still here, and not penned.
Kelly (dove) flew down from the rafters, and onto a small container of DE. Her mother could not get to her to feed her. Once I put her outside, she ate. I then returned her to her nest. Hopefully today she is more confident, and can fly better.
ewww
lol

for kelly

MC, jars have endless possibilities! The ones I'm painting are the ones my store-bought spaghetti sauce comes in.
highfive.gif
Yesterday I did an olive oil bottle.

Your canning jars are like jelly jars or bigger? I'm nearly out of jars, moving on to beer bottles next.
I love old jars and bottles!! i have THOUSANDS of the silly things, some are over 100 years old, everytime i go out i find more

Morning everyone.

Broody ended up with 6 chicks. Very protective of them I might add. Going into feed and water and she went for me flying up and hit my hands. Didn't draw blood but sure surprised me. Will be more attentive of that this am. In the mayhem of her trying to get me one of the chicks went under the nesting buckets causing her to fling dust and chicks every where while trying to get the chick out. Here they are
@daxigait

Good morning, congrats on the chicks!! Super cute

Going morning everyone.
Good Morning!

Ahh! I've never did giant cochins? What's the size difference?

These are the size of our cochins.

Our rooster is smaller than our RIR hen.

I don't know if they are considered Banty, or regular? LOL

I just know they are cochins. hehe

If you have gigantic ones... share a pic?

I love my cochin roo.
huge difference, like 3x bigger lol

It's National Coffee Day!
