I am firing up the incubator again and this time using a thermometer. Last time I had 50% hatch on baby chicks and like all but 2 from my 13 guineas.. this bad boy is reading 104.7 on two different thermometers.. how is thus possible? What am I missing? It is one of those square Styrofoam incubators I think it's called like a hoovabator? Or something.. thoughts? I definitely want to turn it down but not sure how I even managed to get the to hatch the first time around.

Interesting. I have the same style, and it has a turner which lifts the eggs up about 1.5" closer to the heating element. In that case, the temp can vary drastically with or without the turner.

With that said - it is feasible that you can hatch with temps too hot. It would lead to the chicks growing faster, and probably better than too color.

Regardless, I'd get a second thermometer and verify.
