Incubator is to hot

I have an old incubator with a dial for temp which I have got as low as it will go but that is too hot by about 3 degrees. I have a thermometer inside so I know the temp. How do I perminantly cool it down so my eggs will hatch.

Are you using a separate thermometer than the one on the incubator? You should have a couple calibrated thermometers in there. Does it have a fan? A fan could help too.

I believe time for a new incubator. If you don't want ventilation holes. Which is a good idea. Three degrees isn't a big deal edit it's a huge deal. If you can hatch baby chickens just fine. If it harms the chickens then buy new one. Just not right away. It's not an emergency. Well if you cannot add ventilation holes or a fan then buy a new one.

Don't put eggs in there until it's fixed. Adding different accurate thermometers in different areas of the incubator will be an important first step. Show some pics of your incubator and we might be able to offer some other suggestions.

Three degrees too high with the thermostat set all the way down means the thermostat needs to be replaced.

Are you able to post a photo of your bator? Do you have eggs in it already?

My local friend who bought a cheap cruddy $20 bator.. ended up having to leave the lid propped ajar to get the correct temperature.

You might also be able to try a cooler location.. My very first bator wouldn't get warm enough in my cold house.. adding insulation worked.

Three degrees isn't a big deal.

3 degrees is the difference between life and death actually.. or at least it very well can be.. especially depending on which day of development. All kinds of deformities take place at incorrect temperatures.

Dial temp.. wafer thermostat? These things.. (parts) can go bad and also be replaced.. if parts are available..
