Incubator issues? anyone?

I can only fill it with so much water...This is like the 5th or 6th batch of eggs. Its the furthest they have developed too. I got the incubator as a present from my fiancee' but I think it was like $140-ish? All I know is that its a pain because it doesn't always turn the eggs. I have heard from other people the same thing. That the turned goes out in it. So I have to turn them every evening before I go inside. I stopped turning those eggs 3 days prior to hatching. Now on another note one of my hens sat on an egg for me for about 18 days? give or take? and then the last 2-3 days(?) it spent in the incubator and hatched? So I don't know...I am so frusterated!!!

thought Bantys took like 25 days to hatch? am I wrong???....also be sure to calibrate your hygrometer...I got my from walmart for 8.00 when there shipped they all lose readings...either in packaging or shipping...the area its all done in...so CALIBRATE it....before you use it.

Actually even before the yolk sac is fully absorbed a chick begins to breathe. It's that shift to it's own lungs and metabolic activity that bumps the temp slightly as they begin to hatch.

So yes, they can drown in a too humid incubator before hatch. They can also suffocate from inadequate ventilation while the yolk sac is still out.

If your turner is faulty turn it off, remove it and turn them by hand at least 3 times a day, or five or seven, but odd numbers so over night they're not on the same side all night long. Cartons offer a simple way to turn/tilt groups of eggs, many people use them.

Improper turning does yield very poor results.

Calibrate your thermometers and hygrometers (know how much they are OFF by). Accurate temps and humidity are important.

Consistently poor hatches, with the one brooded egg that hatched suggests a bator running cool and/or improper turning.

You did good to ask. Run only free eggs - most farmers will donate eggs to test your incubator with. Ask around.

If you don't buy eggs until you get it sorted out - it will be less frustrating. Keep trying you'll get it sorted out. You're not the first to do a LOT of

Thanks for posting the link - they have other cool stuff too but I'm not seeing any prices. Do you mind if I ask how much the incubator is?

A member is selling one on here for $100.00. I don't think those are too cheap.
