Sure hope they make it!

Well, bad news! #3, with the yolk sack died. It was active, eating, pooping, and seemed fine. 15 minutes later, I went in there and it was on it's back dead. I guess it just failed to get the nutrients that it needed from the yolk. I was surprised to say the least. So, assuming the other 3 chicks are healthy, and if the other 3 eggs don't hatch, our hatch rate will be 3/29. Terrible in my opinion! Shouldn't it be higher than that? Then again, most of the eggs I removed were porous. Now that I know a little bit about candling, I'll candle before setting and not set porous eggs. Going to give these last 3 a day or 2, then cleaning out the incubator for round 2.

it didn't seem to have too much yolk left, did you give it extra electrolytes or treat the yolk? It would help others if you share, usually they do fine. Sorry to hear you lost her.

I separated the chick from the others. The next day, the sack was dried up and the skin was closed up around it. I gave it medicated feed and water, but I didn't treat the sack because it looked like it was about to fall off and the chick acted perfectly healthy. Guess I was wrong. Maybe I should've done more.

Well, more bad news. Chicks 3 and 4 died. The first 2 that hatched are the only ones left. They appear to be perfectly healthy though, and have from the start.

I gently cracked open the other 3 shells yesterday following advice from a post on BYC. One started developing, then died before full development. 1 developed but was in the shell upside down. I assume this prevented him from hatching? The third developed fully and never hatched. I'm assuming it drowned. Definitely an experience! I'd post pics but don't want to be too graphic.

Getting an auto egg turner and a better fan for my incubator this week. Starting round 2 on Sunday.

Thanks again everyone!
