Hello,

So I just ordered a dozen Blue Copper Maran eggs for about $100. I originally thought that my current incubator would be able to handle this, but I just took it out for the first time in 4 years and it's not behaving the way I'd like. The heater is really finicky, and when I open the lid to add water, the temperature guage will get reset and I'll have to fiddle with it until it's back to normal. The automatic Turner only turns to the left, then when it tries to go to the right it stops at 45°, so it's full range of motion is 70° on the right to 45° on the right. Would this be ok to incubate with or should I get a new one?

That would be up to you. :)
Can you monitor it throughout the day to make sure it’s holding steady temps? Have you checked the temp and humidity against a calibrated thermometer/hygrometer? Can you hand turn the eggs? If you can babysit it and help with turning then you might want to give it a try. If you very badly want these eggs to hatch without worrying about the incubator then maybe you want to get a new one.

Can you take the turner out and turn by hand?

You HAVE to get separate thermometerS and calibrate them, NEVER trust the reading of a built in temp reader.

I ended up getting a new incubator. Little Giant Still air for $100 including turner. I bought a separate thermometer and hydrometer.
