a heat sink is used to help hold heat and it helps to stabilize the incubator
i use full/sealed water bottles or jars (in my home-made incubator)

in styro bators many people add marbles or flat rocks under the wire mesh

you'll want some that are kinda smooth so you can clean them, maybe boil them first so they dont bring germs in
