This is an update to an earlier post but here I go again. My first incubation attempt was a big failure but a learning experience. 1st off it was a cheap incubator and had done no research on how to. ( Big Mistake). Now I got my new incubator, (Janoel 12) I have researched many sources for the past 3 weeks on every subject I could think of for the process. I hooked up set the new incubator and tested it the recommended time. I candled and inspected the six eggs that were placed in it. I determined the eggs appear to be fertile which was a concern I had. So at 6pm tonight my eggs (2 Easter eggers eggs, 2 brown leghorn eggs, and 2 barred rock eggs) started incubation. This incubator has an automatic egg turner so all I need to do is add water ever 2 days and adjust temperature as recommended. (I think). So candle the eggs at what day next (7 days)? Then 14 days? That is the only thing I might need help with.
I bought a Janoel 12, have tested it, have read several weeks of threads and it's back in the box
Hope to use it in the near future but for now it's packed
I appreciate all the replies I am excited this time around. I have all the information and help I need here at the BYC. The Janoel 12 was a highly rated small incubator on every website I checked with high hatch rates as well. Plus I plan on checking the humidity regularly as soon as my hygrometer gets here. It is late coming in the mail.I have the settings on what is recommended.. I will post updates weekly to let everyone know how it's going. I am anxious as an expecting parent. All who want to follow along are welcome to do so. I just hope I don't mess this one up. I am a pretty experienced person when it comes to raising chicks and chickens. I have just never hatched an egg, through a broody hen or by incubation. This is my bucket list item!
I'll be watching your progress, best wishes.
