Incubator

Lockdown is the last three days of incubation when you stop turning and boost humidity.
do they all hatch inside the incubator or do you have to take them out before they hatch? And also is there a chart or something where I know how high I have to set the temp and the humidity?

They hatch in the incubator. For most fowl, the temperature in a forced air incubator, which is what that Brinsea is, should be 99.5 degrees. Humidity will depend largely on your location and climate. For me, I need to keep it at 30%.

It sounds like you might want to do some reading on the basics of incubation, so check out these articles:

If you ever want to PM me to ask questions, feel free :)

I love my Octagon 20 and 40 Ecos from them, but they don't make that style anymore since they switched to their new Ovation models, which are very nice, from what I've heard. If you want one that holds at least 25 eggs and is fully automatic, including humidity control, this one is the one you want.

There is a larger one as well but it is $100 more. It does hold twice the number of eggs, though, so if that's worth it to you, you could spend the extra $100.

Yes, they hatch right in there :) And yes, it can hatch any egg, although for larger eggs like geese and smaller eggs like quail you would need to buy the appropriately sized rails for the autoturner, which they do sell on their website.

To start a PM, just click on my profile picture and then in the pop up that comes up click on "Start a Conversation".

I just purchased the ovation 56 ex fully automatic as an addition to my cheap incubator and so far I am very happy. I have not used it for hatching but love the fact that it holds the temp rock solid and handles the humidity for me. Just set it and keep the reservoir full. I will be setting more eggs tomorrow

I purchased it on ebay..... I thought I was getting a brand new one that had been opened..... turns out they had ran it but so far it's working swell. I purchased it because I ended up with a staggered hatch and was concerned about upping the humidity on the last eggs too early. So I moved the eggs not in lockdown into the brinsea for their last week and used my old bator for hatching. I just set 31 barnyard mix in it tonight. So we will see in 21 days!
