I am in the "semi" hatching mood. between illness and other things they just kind of build. I will get one more hatch before winter makes it impractical to try and ship them off to anyone. This is my chance to get some birds south.

I just store them on a turntable so they are not just lying on one side. I wish toad eggs were not so touchy, I think some of it is just poor fertility from the baby Huey size roosters. Of course the one that got tangled in the electric fence today won't have good sperm for 6 weeks now..Poor guy.
I believe that Sally's method involves storing the eggs pointy side up in an egg carton which she encloses in a plastic bag. There is no turning of the eggs and they are stored in a cool place for extended periods of time which in some cases may be longer than your 21 days.

sounds similar to one of the things i read about them while following her threads, but the main concern was them not losing moisture prior to setting

I know everything I have read on longer term storage involves something to retain moisture or prevent moisture loss.

Living in the middle of a Sand Dunes as I do you would think moisture loss would be a problem. I assure you it is not, we have 73% humidity right now. We get a little low on the cold nights be we run high humidity.

I actually candled the eggs when I set them. I was looking for cracks more than anything. I did have one yolk welded to the side of the egg, a loser egg...

The air sacs were all normal, I did not see anything that showed any excessive or moisture loss at all. I know not everyone stores eggs on turners, ( I could be the only one in the world, but it makes me feel good about them sitting around).

My idea is to not allow the yolk to weld in place against a side, I failed on one egg. I have no idea how the hatch will do, the eggs were dirty when picked because of all the rain and toads not being the neatest birds alive. I wash and dsinfect them right away. They are kept covered by not air tight during storage. The next batch will not be as long a storage period.

Holm will be picking up eggs on Sunday, so they will not have a week even. I will then store for two weeks and set again. Unless these do not sell, the I will pick for 2 weeks and make deviled eggs!

I have pips! 3 of 4 of my CX project eggs are trying to hatch. They're not due till tomorrow. I'm curious to see if I cab trek who dad was on these ones. I have my CX hen seperated now with a crele orpington boy but I've yet to see him mount her and she's already slowing dramatically on her egg laying. Hoping for some strong and healthy babies!

Thank you! Possible dads are welbar, legbar, BCM, crele orpington, CX, ayam cemani, lavender ameraucana and silkie (though I think he'd find that hard to accomplish lol). I can't wait to see what they look like.

Babies are almost a week old now

All 4 eggs that developed hatched! Here they are! At this moment, I'm wondering if maybe our CX roo was dad. I guess maybe I have to wait and see how they feather in. The spots are cute though :)
I would guess your Cream Legbar may be the father. Crossing white leghorn hens with a Cream Legbar rooster produces yellow/white chicks with some having black dots on them just like the pictures of your chicks.
