Incubators Anonymous

Hi all
I am addicted to incubating and don't even have one yet!

Currently I have 4 buckeye hens and a roo. I plan on incubating starting in March. I also plan on starting a 2nd flock of chanticlers.

I've been searching far and wide trying to figure out what make and model incubator seems to have the best results. I'm a total newbie so I'm leaning towards a set it and forget it style. I'm thinking of one that holds 20-56 eggs.

What has worked best for you?

You can't go wrong with GQF hova bators. Definitely get a forced air type and an auto turner if you don't want to have to do much with it. There are less expensive ones than the Genesis though the Genesis is coolest looking. I'd advise against Little Giant or Farm Innovators. I've had both and they don't really hold humidity well or stay temps.

I have heard many say the Genesis is the best low-cost styro bator, though. I personally want an Incuview, for maximum visibility when I camp out next to the bator on hatch day (which I do every single time ;)). It mostly comes down to what works for you. Good luck in your search, and with your birds!

You can't go wrong with either of those incubators. I personally use both at home and love them. I am normally bias towards the IncuView...because we make them...but the 1588 is a good little unit as well. The 1602N with a fan kit added is pretty good too, but the lack of a digital control center and the old school wafer set up is not for a lot of people. Best of luck on your incubator hunt.
