Incubators Anonymous

On the incubator question.... I started last November with a cheap Chinese model that holds 56 eggs, forced air with an auto turner. I hatched some chicks but fought the humidity tooth and nail..... grrr nothing like having it drop to 20 and then jump to over 50% when I added water. So in Aug I bought a brinsea ovation with the humidity pump and watched my hatch rate improve and my stress reduce greatly. This last hatch I had turkey eggs that had to be hand turned and chicken eggs in the auto turner and managed to hatch 16 out of 22 chicken and 3 out of 4 turkeys

I had a chance to try a brinsea. I honestly hated the thing. I had trouble with humidity the whole time, the movement was troublesome, it needed multiple outlets, and was a bear to clean :duc. I'm definitely a GQF snob :smack. Other than seramas, I have lots of:jumpy in them. Speaking of which, I'm setting 5 showgirls and 6 quail eggs tomorrow :celebrate

Hi, my name is Amber, and I'm a Hatchaholic. I have 15 hens, & 4 ducks currently, 4 silky babies that hatched on Halloween, and 24 more eggs in the bator now. And....thanks to you all...I REALLY want to hatch TURKEYS!!!!! My husband has forbade me....but he said that about the ducks too, and look who won there.....hmmm

She is not making this up. I may decide I have had enough with chickens and actually retire someday..BUT no turkeys. They are feathered dogs and give way too much entertainment to me to ever do away with them.
