I've heard a lot of great things about Brinseas. However, it's strange that your cooler-bator works only in winter. It may have something to do with your seasonal humidity.

I'm honestly not sure. I mean the running joke with Susan is that the only way to get it to work properly is if you stick it in a refrigerator while it's running. The problem with it is that since it's a home made incubator the heat source is two light bulbs and the fan that I tried to install is busted. Sooooooo while in December when I used it it stayed at around a stead 102 degrees as a still air, in the spring time it was fluxing all the way up to 106
It was my first incubator ever so I kinda just ran with it. It hatched out three beautiful Ameraucana babies in December (the first time I used it and the reason why I built it) so I'm not too upset with it. This past hatch was just bad.
Definitely the fan. Mine has sort of the opposite problem. My fans' a bit strong so it's hard to keep the humidity up at the end. (I can do 60% but 65% only lasts for a few hours.) However, the temp holds steady & it returns to temp within 10-20 secs after opening to turn eggs. I just salvaged a computer fan & adapter before it went to recycling.I'm honestly not sure. I just added quail eggs to my bator today..... OK so they are not for me. No really. I recently moved my bator out of the bedroom..... I think it was fighting with the air conditioner too much so I moved it to the laundry room with the brooder

Why is it that every time I hatch quail, I totally miss the hatch! I looked an hour ago and there were eggs. Looked a little later and there were all chicks! I give up trying to see them hatch lol

It's nice when things go well.... my last hatch was a total bust 0 out of 8 turkey and 5 chicken eggs that went into lock down.... all I can figure is that the temp spiked???? Idk but very frustrating

Quail zip fast! And they like to hatch in pairs or more. Sounds like yours all wanted out at the same time!
I got another incubator the other day.
A friend bought a Brinsea mini advance at TSC on clearance for less than half price! He said he didn't really need it. I joked and said it would make a great ICU for assisted chicks/ducklings. So he mailed it to me! I'm paying him for it, but awesome deal!! I didn't really need it, but ya know...
