Incubators Anonymous

I'm planning on setting some eggs in the next couple of days. For now, I'm going to use my cardboard box incubator. I think DH wants to get a proper incubator next. After that, I'm going to insist on getting the items needed to modify the small cooler-bator I have.

Calichick.. I have bantam eggs lol haven't got them seperated. Barred cochin,ee,columbian wyandotte I know are laying. Partride cochin, buff brahma are also in that pen. The little wyandottes stick to them selves so they are prob pure.I have my cochin roos locked up in a naughty boy pen untill they get over their teenage hormones...I will be separating the wyandottes as I have had people wanting eggs from them for months.
Oooooh!!! I absolutely love Bantam Cochins...shape and color are amazing and such friendly personalities

Size works well for me because space is limited

Maybe when I am ready to incubate another batch I can get some eggs from you?? I have only tried shipped once with no luck...they came from S.C. so thinking the long ride in summer wasn't a good plan

So my chicks that I hatched July 22 are outside in the "baby" coop and doing great but it's looking like out of the 15 I might have 10 roosters... So I fired up the bator! I butcher the Roos no problem but I trade eggs and need more layers. I culled 2 that were old (one was 4 the other 3) and not acting themselves. They both had severe fatty liver/heart disease. I would like 5 more hens but the chicken gods don't like me!

Tea chick I am aware..i had offered to just give some of the others and still too hot to ship eggs right now very far so i was going to seperate next week or the week after..as it is hot here also and my breeding cage for them is kind of little i would rather have them mixed and happy right now...

they are all mixed together I wouldn't charge anything too hot right now anyway just cover shipping..with the space I have I could separtae the barred for you as I only have 1 hen of those she is so sweet follows me around singing at me. the buff brahma roo's acttually have the nicest personality feather footed also don't think they are laying just yet..My bantam Wyandotte roo is a litte demon but at his petite size it is more funny then anything else when he flogs doesn't even hurt he is standard which is right about 2 lbs.. even the bantam cochins tower over him..planning on building some breeding pens over the winter..
a cochin roo by the wyandotte hen.

Oh, I wasn't implying that you didn't know. Yeah, it's pretty hot.

I am sorry didn't mean to sound that way.. i was just offering some others eggs for practice mixed breed or cheap eggs(free ) are great don't want the chicks just give them away won't hurt my feelings.. why learn on high dollar eggs when there is a skill to hatching shipped ones anyhow..
I see far too many people order way expensive eggs for their first adventure into shipped eggs..I won't even sell eggs in July and August no matter how well i pack them doesn't change the temp in the backs of those trucks poor egglets don't stand a chance.
I have processed a whole wheel barrow full of tomatoes in the last 24 hrs little grumpy i think ,not just peel them and can them Spag sauce etc..my chicken love me all those peels, cores bruised bit they are getting them by the hospital tub full..

of course i expect red ppop from them after all those tomatoe scraps..

Oh, please don't worry about it. I know it's easy to misunderstand how ppl are saying what they're saying when it's typed online. =)
It's super nice of you to offer eggs for ppl to practice on!!!

I agree it makes a lot more sense than experimenting with high dollar eggs on a first try.

Oh, wow! I like tomatoes, but to eat, not to spend 24 hours with. lol
My chickens like tomato scraps too. It's kind of "weird" b/c a lot of ppl say not to feed chickens tomatoes b/c they're a member of the nightshade family. Go figure!

We're good!

it is the plants that are posion to even us...the tomatoes are fine many dehydrate or freeze for winter treats..or plant cherry tomatoes along runs so the tomatoes hang in reach..

Oh, I was told it was the tomatoes too. (and potatoes and peppers, etc.)
Speaking of planting along the runs, I was thinking of planting some cucumber vines. I could pick the top half and the chickens could eat the bottom half. =D
