A closet chicken lover! AWESOME! My daughter loves hating chicks she's 8 and just started 4h this summer.
Your daughter sounds exactly like mine. She joined 4H last fall (age 8) & this poultry project was her 1st attempt at hatching. Although she won Best in Show, she's too young to go to state for another 2 years. I'm still overly cautious about bringing our chickens to the fair. (They've never been near other chickens since we hatched them here.) The 'Animal Science' project was a great way to play around with chickens & not worry about exposing our mini flock. I must admit that when I ordered the shipped eggs for HER project, I made sure to include several breeds from MY wish list. She's got wise & is asking to hatch some pretty bantams (& maybe a silkie) next spring. They learn so quickly, don't they?

You should check out the Pyncheon bantams. They are on ALBC's endangered list. They are crested and millifleur. Thomas Jefferson raised them.

Showed this thread to my husband hoping for sympathy
and he said admitting you have a problem is the first step...So,I shall not say a word.
. Oh I wouldn't worry I'm quite happy to admit I have a problem when it comes to chickens, eggs and incubation, my better half reminds me quite often!! But when it comes down it he is just as bad but just doesn't want to admit it. He was the one who bought the first two chickens and coop because they were cheap. Novelty soon wore off and I took over even though I was bird phobic. Also with the incubator he's there always sneaking a look when hatch is taking place even waking me up in middle of night just say there is another pip.:jumpy

My daughter LOVES the bantams! She says the only thing she loves more than her little chicks are even littler chicks! LOL This kid is hooked... Dad is going to build her a special "Chicken fortress" for the 4H fancy birds. It only took her 2 days to convince him!

My DH always says, " everyone needs a hobby!" And we r in process of coop/run #6!!! And I just started chicken keeping Spring 2013!

BTW- He also just ordered me the "Crazy Chicken Lady" Tshirt AND. A hoodie, so I can be crazy year a round! Lmbo

That's approximately my DH's philosophy on my chickens. It extends to what he said to our daughters this morning, "Your mother would have a whole farm if she could."
We have build (or rebuilt) four coops/runs/pens/??? We're planning on "practicing" by building a small coop/run/tractor thing for the three bantams we have.
I want a coffee/tea cup that says something like that!!! =D

I don't have anyone to enable me. I do a really good job of enabling myself.

We'll enable you!!!

That's so sweet. My DH is a typical computer geek who feels nature is messy & should remain outside. Opposites attract & he has become a very patient & understanding man over the years. He's put up with all the strange science projects, reptiles, and an assorted menagerie of classroom pets (ie- unwanted students' pets that get "donated" to my science lab.) When I decided to keep a few backyard chickens, he thought it was a little crazy but went along. Now that he's getting amazing eggs, I catch him sneaking kitchen scraps out to the coop.

I built a cooler incubator so my daughter can take up my incubation addiction. She won best in show for her animal science project. We sold most of her adorable results. Now hooked, she wants to hatch some bantams next spring.

Yup, they're such sweeties, aren't they? The patient city boys and computer geeks that we marry and they had never stepped in poo until they met us, but now they have chickens running around their yards and all kinds of animals running around (hopefully inside of appropriate homes) inside their houses....

Mine takes left over halves of biscuits and old frozen veggies out to them.

I had a duckie in my incubator that wasn't ready to come out, when I went to check on it, I had a surprise! One of the eggs left in my incubator hatched! I had another little chick! I have 2 more that are close to hatching.

Yay!!!

That is Awesome! My DH is helping me build a "Turkey Complex" this winter so I figure that' will mean we need more turkeys!

I think I might need one of those hoodies!

I saw a poultry package when we were looking at chicks this morning. I was going to list what was in the package, but here's a link:
It's called the "Happy Cackle Special":

Here's a little something from a fellow BYCer:
It's a "Little Goose Poop" youtube video. Thought you all might enjoy it.
Sorry about my "Little Goose Poop" ramble...
The Happy Cackle Special relates b/c it includes 2 turkeys. =D
Sorry.

I think they are hilarious, cause I'm soooo protective of all my chickens.

I want one like that!!!
(only on a coffee cup)

Many husbands (and wives for that matter) have come around to at least appreciating the chicken ppl in their lives.

My DH is the one who bought our original flock too. He went into TSC with our youngest for dog food (or some other innocuous thing like that) and was taking a really long time. Eventually, he emerged with a cart full of brooding paraphernalia and a set a cheeping box on my lap. I had been talking to him for years about how easy it would be to have a few hens and we'd get eggs and they could just run around the yard, etc. and I had given up on "convincing" him that it was a "good idea" for us to have chickens. Now....I'm thinking about a goat (or three) and planning on turkeys.....(we need an emoticon that's rubbing its hands together planningly.)

Well thank you! I have had so much happen so fast and furious that I am hoping for some relief in a routine. All I know is that this is something I REALLY want to do!
