One of my friends hatches a lot of different kinds of Quail, including Buttons. I still cannot believe how small they are!!! It's incredible, they are so cute.

We needs pics of these cuties! I've never seen one.

Question: are they good eating?

Apparently they are good eating, everyone around here says, "You have quail? Oh, I would have to eat those." I had my whole first group of breeders eaten by feral dogs. I have never had quail. If you want to see a pic of baby quail on a spoon, I can email one to you if u send me a pm with your email addy. They are adorable!
Found more eggs deposited by the hens into the broody's nest! Found one of the hens squished in to lay! THe BA did not budge or hiss . . . . rather MORE, MORE, MORE.
She had 20 eggs under her! 20!!

I pulled her out to eat and drink while I quickly snanned for X's. I heard that ominous thunk--an egg cracking on the coop floor.

ANd I had checked for any eggs tucked between her legs. Really, I did!! Fortunately it didn't have an X and that egg and the other extras headed to the house. . ... and upstairs and into the incubator!!!

PS. THe cracked one headed to the kitchen for eating.

thanks. well that was a week ago or so... an update on what's in the 'bator, i have 4 of the original 12 dorking eggs developing (roo needs lessons on 'how to' i think), and 14/24 cochin eggs are going strong. i've also added 11 more dorking eggs (found a pile of them outside, we'll see if they're any good by tomorrow). and i've got 4 more sitting debating on going in, depending on what looks viable tomorrow.

What's hatching? I found two silkies and a EE in the styrofoam Bator this morning, need to go check the cabinet.

Hi all! I "accidentally" hit the bid button, and then I won some bantam Cochin eggs.....16 came in the mail, and I've set them, along with three of my own bantam Polish eggs......

The ridiculous thing is that I didn't even have an incubator. I sold my last incubator. So lucky for me my good friend let me use hers.

Is that insanity or what?

I needed a few pointers on this as I have BCM eggs enroute for this weekend AND next. Trying to keep DH from noticing. THough I do have a few brown eggs in now, maybe he won't notice AND the boys can keep a secret! NAUGHT!

I am lucky, DH is at work most of the time when the mail gets here. They had a new mail person today, she never beeped the horn, just put the package that said"live animals" on the hood of my truck and left. Now it is about 38 degrees this morning, I don't think that will help my chances at hatching! Lucky I was lurking around waiting for the mail so it didn't sit there long.
My styrofoam Bator is emptying out, I took another batch of chicks out this morning. Mostly just shipped eggs left to hatch yet, but today is the due day so maybe they will hatch. I had to move more chicks to the barn to make room in the garage. I am heating up another brooder, I still need to check the cabinet for babies today what are you guys hatching?
