This one everyone is setting eggs on specific dates in hopes of all hatching on the same day (New Years). It's a lot of fun. The thread moves FAST though

Well, I mentioned this hatch a long to my husband and he actually said "Hey, that's kinda cool!" I didn't hear anything else he said after..I was busy signing up .... something like but why? What ..bla blah...the chicks? How many bla blah blahhh the house? Where, bla de bla, bla bla... I said I'm glad you like it! I signed up! He just rolled his eyes and smiled...

I just told my DH about this. He's busy with our only chick. I'm hatching her a flock, but I told him we have to be her flock until the eggs hatch. I sure hope she turns out to be a she!!! I don't think I could cull her now that she's learned to copy his whistling at her.

I was wondering if anyone has an incubator they'd be willing to part with for free or cheap. Please PM me.

I have an EE rooster, but I have to re-home him. My junior roo has already started mounting some of the hens, so I won't be able to be sure of who's eggs are being fertilized by whom very soon. I stacked eggs in the incubator that I already have on (which is something I didn't really want to do, but I was going to lose those eggs like tomorrow and Sat if I didn't get them in a 'bator).
Anyway, if anyone has an incubator, please PM me and we can work out details.
Thanks. =)

I built mine out of an old cooler in less than a day. Its manual but works great.

My incubators are empty for the first time in months, which is so sad. I don't know if I can get eggs to set on that day but I want to get more Silkie eggs. I hatched 2 but I am sure one is a roo and I still want more broody hens!!

Do you ever order through ebay? A lot of people are lucky and have lots of wonderful breeds to choose from where they're located. I'm just not one of those lucky people so I haunt ebay and craigslist a lot. Earlier I was browsing through all the hatching eggs listings and there are a lot of silkie auctions for really good prices. I got 18 silkie eggs for $35 about a week and a half ago. I have 3 silkie chicks currently and I'm starting to think both of the older ones are roos. It's so hard to tell with silkies though and they're only about 5 weeks old. I was hoping for broodies too and I just love their looks and personalities.

I know.. I had a few last eggs from my frizzle hen that quit and then the emptiness hit me! I do have 7 ducklings in my living room in a baby pool so I don't feel too forlorn... I have 3 indoor brooders actually

I think the duckies will have to go out sooner rather than later but fortunately it has been pretty warm out.

I got my last Silkie eggs locally, which I love to do and she has lavender, which I really want, so I will see if I can get any eggs from her, but that is a pretty good price for 18 eggs. I paid that much for my last shipped duck eggs and just hatched 2 but I think it was worth it. My Silkies are still little but one of them did a full on rooster crow at 4 days old so I am still working on acceptance, hoping the other is a hen.

I would love to know how all your shipped Silkie eggs do!

I still need to finish our pen for the heritage turkeys that I plan to get next month. We sold our peafowl to make room for them. 3 hens and a tom should lay about 300 fertile eggs a year! We are pretty excited about that!
