Are they coturnix? They hatch in 18 days so lockdown 2-3 days before that. I missed lockdown this time but they are hatching like crazy anyways. DH says, that's a lot of quails. Yeah, I set 90+ eggs....well I didn't want to waste them:-D Mine hatched with chicks and the quail thought the chicks were their mommies, all snuggled together. But I separate them to brood.
Ugh, I am so not feeling better . I think my septic tank is filling up and I feel like I have a great big screw through my guts. I have an appointment in Jan. to see a specialist , just when our giant copay kicks back in. Maybe I should just go to the ER.
At least my truck is fixed. My MIL sent me money for Christmas , so I am using it to buy chicks. Shocking, I know:-D

If you're getting any signs of dehydration, you better get into ER. Not my favorite place either

Yeah, nurses make terrible patients too. It's not the waiting I mind, it is being away from the farm so long. Always so much to do.I am drinking lots but can tell I am not 100% hydrated. Makes you tired too. I was thinking maybe this weekend when DH is home I can go. He will feed if he has to. It is a lot easier for him on the weekend. Wish we weren't getting rain tomorrow , I need to get these young quail out to the brooder and it needs cleaning. Always something. Just went out to the incubator and there were more babies peeping. Moved another tray to the Hatcher. The neighbors dog has been barking for an hour, they finally went out and blasted whatever he was barking at, about 6 shots so it must have been hard to kill. They have ducks and chickens so the varmints come around
IDK where my watch dog is, I have not heard him barking tonight.
Mostly I worry about cancer, my Aunt got intestinal cancer and it killed her. So I will get checked.

well take care of yourself. your chickies need you! they can live without you for as long as it takes to get you checked out.

I can sympathize about having family history... i've got 9 people in 4 generations of my family with breast cancer. some are still here, some gone. my mom has been cancer free for over 10 years now, but her sister wasn't so lucky.

so i've got that big bullseye hanging over me too...

and thanks for letting me know about the quail too. I was worried chicks might try to hurt the quail.

That makes three of us. Of a family of 6, 3 have died from cancer and my sister is a breast cancer survivor. My other sister and I hate going to the MD because we're just waiting for bad news

My Aunt had breast cancer, but caught it early due to mammogram and was able to have a lumpectomy and no chemo. That is how I finally convinced my Mom to get a mammogram, she didn't want to go because it hurts. Just get a grip and do it, my motto.

My bad lockdown is tomorrow

Got the hatcher warming up and holding temp and humidity perfect at last check. My leghorns have started laying.... I have to hatch them for some super blue egg layers

They are in with an EE roo So I will hatch every egg for a little while as they will probably not stay with him for long.

Deb do you need a DB roo?.... cuz I got two out of three
he.gif
In fact that whole hatch has tons of roo.... Prod Red and Blue Rocks... still think I may have gotten a couple of more girls but close to 50/50. You need some blue rocks don't you Deb... can hook you up with roos and pullets.

Any tips on how to stabilize humidity?? During the summer and fall months, my hovabator was perfect. Added water every two or three days, easy. Now that it's winter and we have the wood stove cranked up, my incubator's humidity drops soooo fast!! I checked it at 6AM this morning, it was at 19%!!! Added what I normally add and only brought it up to 45%. Stabilized at 60% now, but have I ruined this batch of eggs??? Should I add more water before bed tonight?

I have two Dark Brahma roosters, so I am good on them. Blue Rocks? Naturally I don't have any but I am going to be busy building a coop for Ameraucanas.... No room at the inn. I moved polish today into that coop, one side of a duplex. The Buff laced polish are going on the other side once I get all the latches on. I need to build coops for my white Ameraucanas, my Salmon Faverolles, my Buff Brahmas, you get the idea. I was really happy it didn't rain all day like it was supposed to. I got the polish run finished. Built a nest box, cleaned and moved the quail brooder, put the older batch of quail in there. I was really happy to get them out of the garage.
I had one lone quail hatch this morning, already tons in the fish tank. I am going to have to sell them soon or build a big brooder. I set 90+ eggs, what was I thinking?

I only have a homemade bator and hatcher so I can only offer so much help. I would check the water more often. Are you in lockdown? If so I read that you can add paper towels to up the humidity. Could you also put a vaporizer or humidifier close to the incubator so the air that is going in is moist? In my incubator I just add more water. At lockdown I have two tubs of water one with a sponge it loses more water. If I need to up the humidity I can add another sponge. I don't worry about my humidity too much until lockdown. It gets dry sometimes, but the humidity never really gets under 25%. So that will not cause too much problems if any from what I have read.

Probably didn't really help but there ya go!
