Incubators Anonymous

I was hoping to sell hatching eggs now and then. More now than then really. ANd breed a few for my own use and for sale. Hoping to offer what the local feed and needs does not sell; don't want to compete with them. I do want the chickens to pay for themselves.

Ok the MEGA Bator is up and running and I have 2 sets of eggs 3 days apart. A total of 295 eggs

Not wishing any thing bad but hope some are not developing. I can't handle all those chicks

I do have 12 sold so that is good... if they hatch. I set some old eggs so they may not hatch. From here on out they can be fresh since I have plenty of room to add eggs whenever I want.

I just hatched my last batch from the old bator. When I left the farm I had 6, 1 RIR? and 4 Black Stars (IDK what happened there, they were supposed to be RIR but had some WRocks in there too

) Should I keep them or sell them. They would be in my laying flock for eating eggs. I may have some more when we get to the farm, I hope so... that was not a great hatch if that was it. I think there were 10-12 eggs that didn't pip yet. 1 had pipped so

.

I started a thread for the new bator if you want to take a look

Mahonri's Hatch along is close to beating last year's number of participants!! Sign up is easy and there are loads of contests and winnings like eggs!

WHo is planning to join in on the fun???

I candled the tray with 180 eggs and most are developing ...

Not many I will want to sell. All the wheaten Ams are good, all the blue rocks were good. Deb 13 of the BR are going out of 23 German NH 20 are good... all my old eggs are good... I cant really tell about the marans but I think most of mine are good except the cuckoos, but all were left till next week.

We are in the final stages of finishing my tower of brooders. It is 4 brooders tall and each one is like 16" tall x 22" wide and 44" long. We have to get the electric and flooring and front wall with doors done and I am ready to brood!

I have eggs running out my ears! I may start selling some of my "special" eggs. I just set 75 more... marans, lav split ams and some others. I must stop!

I like the idea of the stacked brooder. I have mine planned out. But DH nixes the idea of a basement brooder. I will figure out a way .

I'm allergic to poultry apparently, so I think, the basement would be the best for my health.

Hope you will show pics when you are finished. You always do great work.

I will, I drove by the pallet supply place and they were all GONE!!!! They must have paid someone to come get the pallets to clean it up... I hope that is not a regular thing

OH I built this brooder out of a giant crate they had. Has worked great! I am just running out of some wood...

Maybe you can call and ask about future pallets and let them know there is a demand for them.

We have Atlas box and crate company a few miles away. I made the trip today as I need a few pieces. No new material because of the storm yesterday apparently. Long wood is hard to find anyway, but I scored 1 piece and settled for several blocks to support roosts. And a pallet.

The place I score long pallets is from a sheet metal place we need a trailer to get them. I know he is hoping we show back up soon, his parking lot is overflowing with long pallets.

I don't have time for them right now. They are really hard to break apart and unless I have a project that needs long pallets I don't use them. What I need is more shipping crates.... CL will have them one day!

I see the long pallet once in a while. HUGE. Can't fit them in my car.

Settle for what will fit. Scored full loads of plywood 3x4 sheets, they should keep me busy for a while. Dh is already planning the next three breeder pens. Did n't think I would get him interested.

He's scavenging wood from other projects. Reuse!!

I have a Silverado pick up truck with an 8 foot bed! Anything fits in there, even full sheets of plywood and I can close the tailgate.Donna, how are the BR eggs doing? Did I tell you I hatched a lavender Am? :) Oh, and two ducks!:-D
