Hey Aspen, I am collecting eggs for you! I sent off the ones for Jim today! Roosterlane sent me a pm , they had a terrific hatch with the eggs I sent them.
I wanted to ask you about my ee girls. If I kept breeding back to Ameraucana roos, would I eventually get pures, and how many generations would it take? I have pullets coming
up from breeder stock but these girls are laying now. So what do you think?
Gosh, I have 12 dozen eggs in one Bator and the other is filling up , but no worries, I have 4 more back up bators.:-D

I don't think so. Easter Eggers are considered a "mixed" chicken and therefore aren't "pure". I say your best bet would be to get some birds from a breeder. There are lots of colors out there, including bantam Ameraucanas and Araucanas!

OMG girl!

What on EARTH do you do with all those chicks? How many, and what kind of incubators do you use Deb?

WooHoo!!

Deb, if it works out where you have enough eggs collected by this weekend, could we wait and ship Monday (9/26) so they will be sure to not sit in the P.O. over the weekend?

Hooray for Roosterlane!! What kind did he hatch, if you don't mind my asking?

roosterlane got barred rocks and Rhode island reds.
I have two cabinet incubators, one with a turner and one I use for a Hatcher. I sell my chicks to folks around here. One guy wanted about 300 to do free range organic eggs. Now another guy wants 100 chicks. And the feed store sends me people all the time that want chickens. I also have a reptipro Bator and a trio of styrofoam bators.
I have no problem with shipping early in the week, I will let you know what I get for you. Right now a bunch of Speckled Sussex and Silver Laced Wyandottes are hatching out. Too cute!
I got eggs from someone today. I took eggs from a guy in June or July on one of the swaps, and I have been waiting ever since. Now he gave up on the chickens laying and got me ee and sexlinked eggs on another swap. They arrived in a crushed box with yolk leaking out. I just can't win. Anyway, I did wax two with cracks and have about 7 I washed the yolk off, so we will see.
I do have Ameraucanas from a breeder, they are just not laying yet. And then I have some white ones, I need to get pics of them. Must go put them up for the night.

A friend of mines uncle went to a auction and he bought 11 old GQF sportsman incubators (older models), he kept the only two hatchers and 1 incubator for himself, but sold the other incubators. I bought two of them for $300.00. Awesome Deal!

I have one in my room that I like to use for incubating, but then I usually like to lockdown in either my 1566 or my Brinsea, depending on the number of eggs I'm incubating. If I had room in my bedroom I might bring my other sportsman in, but it's a little bit older model so the temps are a wee bit different I think, not sure. Haven't messed with it since last spring!

I've done a few custom hatches, but I live in such a rural area that I can hardly sell anything because people cannot pick up. I LOVE living in the country, but sometimes I wish we were a bit closer to town so I can do like you are doing. Usually however, I just have to keep everything I hatch because I cannot sell anything I hatch. Yah, I've had alot of people ask me about hatching them some chicks etc but when they find out where I live I never heard back from them!

*sigh* Sorry for the rambling...

Oh goodie!! :yeah You're too kind!

Do you have pictures of your SS and SLW biddies? May we see? 'Purdy Please!

'Hun, I know the feeling. I signed up two times for the mystery swap, but I only recieved one package, and all the eggs were scrambled...the packing job was awful...

Then my other swap partner never sent any eggs, I found out later she had been sick, but when I asked her about the eggs she said she didn't know when she'd be able to send them. I'm really kind of angry about it because I sent over 2 dozen eggs when I only had to send 12...

I was hoping since I added so many extra eggs I would recieved some extra eggs, but nope.

If you have any pictures of the White Ams, please send.

I have been lurking, and I need help!!! I am turning into an addict! My first small hatch to test my incubator turned into 57 eggs (most not fertile) and 31 into lockdown and 28 hatched (2 have died
hit.gif
) But I put in another 14 eggs on day 14 of the first hatch. I have resisted adding more eggs, what to do with all the chicks kinda thing, but now I have 18 Blue and Black Copper Marans eggs coming and my want list is growing....

So I have come here for help... I have wrangled my Son and Hubby into helping me build pens and coops and now I have arranged to have 10 breeding pens built to keep the roos in check and a bachelor pen for the meat birds. So tell me please how to keep this in check...

I have seen some of your members soliciting eggs so I am not sure this is going to work but I will give it a try! I am going to be a Hatchaholic!!!!

BTW my little homemade incubator will hold 7-8 doz eggs with homemade egg turner and I am going to build another and hubby said to keep this one too! I have a sep hatcher so I can do staggered hatches.

I wish I knew how to post pics, but on this phone I have no idea. My computer is hooked up to dial up and loading stuff takes for ever.

RenegadeRidge is trying to get you eggs, she talked to me about it. So I am just going to send you some when I ship the other ones.
I use dry incubation until I put them in the Hatcher. I don't add water at all in the Bator for the first 18 days.
The Speckled Sussex are all muddy right now and I don't have any pics yet but I will email you pics of the Silver Wyandottes.

My name is KY Mae Hen, this is my first incubator batch.. two eggs are pipping? I didn't know not to touch or turn the eggs the last three days so I think oh gads I don't know... any way is anyone out there, I am helping the chicks with their shell as it has been several hours. but now I think that was not a prudent idea!
I am using a self turning incubator that keeps the eggs at about 97. I add water every day or almost every day. Pipping must be when the chick is busting open the egg. What is lock down? After finally getting into this site, I discovered my last three days I was doing everything wrong... I just removed the egg holders hours before the first chick busted its shell. I thought I heard chipping in about four eggs and did not know I was not to turn the eggs so now I don't hear chipping in two of the four... The incubator moves them back and forth but I figured I should spin them. Neighbor told me to keep the eggs with the large side up but I finally thought that doesn't feel right so I turned the sideways, small end down.
Guess my question is... has anyone read silkiechicken? I could help the chicks with their shell, but then there is the membrane and the moisture... OMGoodness.
On a good note. I am building a new coop for the chickens. It is out of recycled products so the time element is elongated but it is going to be awesome. Thank you to all the folks who contributed coop plans.

welcome to byc! Lots of hatchaholics here, so you will enjoy it. I don't add water until day 18. That is when we turn off the egg turners and keep the incubators closed. It is best not to help chicks hatch unless they don't get out after 24 hours. Set your eggs in the Bator with the pointy end down. Good luck and happy hatching!
