This hatch was amazing, I'm still in shock actually... 100% hatched from shipped eggs.

Whoa! That is AWESOME! congrats!

how is the hatch going?
Oz,

So far so good! I am finding myself staring at three eggs just sitting there doing nothing though

I have seen them "wiggle" a little so I know it should be soon. I already have plans for another batch to go in for my daughters next week. They want a silkie and I found some local eggs. I think I caught the hatching bug

thats great.....I think. welcome to our world.

i prefer to hatch in bigger numbers - its a bugger if you just get one chick. but be careful of chicken math. I have 49 chicken eggs in the bators, 4 goose eggs and I live in an apartment

Ha ha , i wasent even supposed to set any, we gave a dozen to a family member after we built home made incubators and I let my daughters talk me into setting a four eggs to make sure it worked. Now we have plans, and suppliers, to hatch out the silkies next. Then BLRW, and then some buckeyes. We are supposed to be moving to a 6 acre mini farm and I am fearful of what I may have started

OH MY! That could be a problem. Do you sell them? I will set my last 2 trays tomorrow. I don't have any extra trays. I have to wait till lockdown for more trays or I need to candle soon

Surely some of those shipped eggs will be clear or stopped so I can toss a FEW.

One more tray and I will be a happy camper as I have about 18 SBEL I could set and some BCM too.

i have pre-arrangements for some, and a bail-out for others if i cant offload them.

the goose eggs will have to wait a while before i put them up for offer. see how they go

Well her is the first of nine chickens. These are RIR eggs I supplied to my wifes cousin. Mine should start hatching tomorrow

Brand new chick

All dried out waiting for sibling who is pipped next to him

ok, i did a little number crunching today...

to date, i've set (not counting what's in the incubator and hatchers now) 1030 eggs. many were shipped, so my hatch rate is by the # that were fertile. I had 598 fertile, 422 hatched. so 71% overall hatch rate.

of those eggs, 539 were shipped, 278 fertile, 184 hatched. that's 48% clear/scrambled/etc. of the rest, i had a 66% hatch rate among developed eggs, or 34% overall...

so guess i'm not doing too badly. 8) i always figured anything over 20% hatch rate (overall) for shipped eggs was pretty good... that's what i use to gauge how much the chicks will end up costing me, roughly. LOL so, unless i have an abysmal hatch on these cochins coming in, i figure if 20% hatch that's about $10 per chick, at $2 per egg... not counting s&h, which i'd have to pay more, if i bought hatched chicks anyways. lets cross fingers (and toes and whatever else) that i get a nice 50% or better hatch rate this time. 8)
