5 gorgeous chicks hatched today!!

congrats!!!!!

i left eggs in the incubator while i was out of town, and put them in the hatcher when i returned, but the humidity was very low and they lost alot of moisture, air cells very big. So far two of four have pipped, wondering if they are able to hatch with such large air cells.

I've never had an egg lose too much moisture unless it was cracked, and then the problems weren't so much moisture loss...

if you keep your humidity up the last 3 days, they should be fine.

Thank you. We didn't think they would make it after them being so cold for 12 hours. I just love the babies but they're under a broody now & all of them are very happy.

I missed the original posting of this... your incubator dropped temp for 12 hours and you still had a good hatch?
I have mine plugged into a power strip and my 2 year old daughter flipped the power strip to off and I didn't catch it all day.
The temp was reading about 80 when I saw it. I plugged it back in, and got back up to temp slowly over about 2 hours.
This just happened I'm almost halfway through this incubation I was getting worried I may have lost some eggs because of it. Too early to tell for sure.

I had the Hatcher get turned off all night in an unheated room and still had a good hatch and the incubator was turned off for over a day maybe 2 and still had a good hatch. they are pretty hearty and will surprise you.

Some of my hens have started to lay again after a little break, and so the basket is filling up a bit with eggs to spare. My young cockerels have recently been seen showing an interest in the ladies so just out of interest I popped a few spare eggs in to the incubator to check fertility in a few days......
However, I have just realised that if they are not fertile that is fine, I bin them...... But then won't I be tempted to try again in a few more weeks? And if they are fertile..... I won't be able to just throw them out knowing that they could hatch :(
Oh dear, I think I may have an addiction!!:D
