I have a batch of chicks hatching..... First mistake.... don't put BLRW in with Rhodebars LOL.... good thing I can tell them apart by combs if nothing else. I hatched some Olive Eggers and WL in the same basket.... but they are all WHITE WTH? Lav roo over Marans...... I am thinking the Lav roo is carrying DOM white and not recessive white..... could that be? he is Lav what would express on him?

I get whites no matter what I cross him with... just not many.

NOW for the real head scratcher the silkies. I have White, Buff, Partridge Silkie Roos over Partridge, Gray(I think) pullets. I think I got 2 CHOC? I hatched a choc wyandotte with them and they look the same!!!! I got a black, a gray or blue and 2 partridge and 1 that look like a paint. I did get some paint eggs and have no idea if any hatched but my white roo could have been from the paint pen. I am still reeling from that basket....I was going to sell them too LOL... Guess I will be keeping them now

I think I will not RUSH breaking that pen up and see what I get for a bit. I am thinking a roo is a choc split...... or what else would make a brown chick????

can't say for your area... humidity in the room averages about 40% this time of year, the incubators read 10 (but go up to 40 if I leave it out of the bator)... I've never had an egg dry out too fast or too much, but again, in sw Virginia that's not likely to be a problem.

any time I've seen people incubating 40-50% I've usually seen many DIS chicks...

partridge (eb) based chicks hatch out a nice golden brown... the b in 'eb' stands for brown chick down color.

the top left and right chicks are mille fleur bantam cochin, (on eb base color)

What's a DIS chick? I thought the 40-50% seemed high, considering you only go up to 65-ish% when hatching. I guess I'll just watch air cells. I'll pull eggs from my own girls on the next couple batches and play a bit. All the eggs in the bator are ordered so fingers crossed. Lol
