Incubators Anonymous

I have some shipped eggs in my incubator that were pretty badly handled in the post. The box was badly damaged but the eggs were whole ...... they are very dark coloured eggs so really hard to see what's going on inside but certainly in one I could see a very mobile air cell.
They have been in the incubator 9 days now and a few of them have little yellowy crystals forming on the outside of the eggs. I have never seen this before but I am guessing it's not a good sign?

No, its not a good sign that is bacteria growing sadly.. it comes out the pores of the egg. I was just reading about that last night. Take out and dispose of.

Be careful removing those eggs.... they tend to explode more or shatter when you touch them. My guess is the egg was cracked and is going bad.

I have 6 eggs in my incubator. They are from my chickens, sort of an experiment. Dads are one of two sizzles(one is sizzle feathered and one is silkie feathered). Moms are one of 7 Cochin/silkie mixes. I thought they weren't suppose to hatch till Monday but I've got 4 pipped already and peeping away! 2 of the 4 started last night but are still going strong. I'm hoping they will hatch soon cause I'm getting excited!! It's hard not to touch! :pop

here is my non touch cure- get more chicks- a friend gave me some to keep the grey chick company, 2 delaware boy and girl, 2 black copper marans, boy and girl, one white maran girl, one isbar girl, and one peach silky.

Meet Twitch, the lone survivor of my first hatch. He loves being held and will sit still and be as sweet as can be, but put him in the brooder and he runs around and peeps non stop. I need to get him a friend next week when TSC starts their chick days here.
