Incubators Anonymous

I think it's best to let all the pipped ones hatch before you open the bater to help that one which has made no progress.  Do you have other's already pipping too?  If so, you put those at risk by opening the bator.  I would wait a while until all pipped ones have hatched and dried, then when you remove them you can check on that one with no progress.  Sometimes I feel that nature just doesn't want all of them to hatch for some reason. Remember they can live for 2-3 days easily in the incubator.

Sorry forgot to say it FINALLY came out! And its CRAZY!!! Had to go ahead and remove it from the bator cause it was stomping all over the others heads!! I hope I didn't kill the pipped one, but if I didn't, it woulda killed them probably. Lol. I did it SUPER quick! Surprised I didn't give it a heart attack I grabbed it so fast.

size is 14''x10''- 9'' tall .... Temp 101.5 still air hand turn eggs.
I got this cooler with a delivery from UPS I decided to make a bator out of it I have made incubators out of coolers before, but I don't like the ones from hardware stores. this is more square and smaller. I put a 15 w clamp lamp in metal bowl for heat protection, normally I use foil- I didn't have any. I taped it down so it will not tip,

I made a wire basket tall enough so hatched chicks cannot hop over.suspended by skewers (heat rises who woulda thunk?)one to hold lamp down too. if your foam cooler is too wide for skewers you will need longer ones and or a higher temp lamp. I like smaller plus the lamps are cooler.I put a quilt down and a skewer in front for balance. this basket is big enough for 10 eggs.

I put a glass door on top where I can keep an eye on my eggs, and don't have to take off lid to turn eggs- even though I can fit ten eggs in it would be easier to turn less. I have 3 large air holes dime sized, I will keep an eye on temp if it goes up I will put in more air holes if it goes down I will plug an air hole. I have incubated in foam coolers before 1/2 cup water in yogurt cup is best. I found the less water the better- if you see your incubator fog up you have too much water.
