I just realized something. I have 1 hen who lays XL eggs. The rest are just average egg size. All 5 of the ones that didn't hatch, came from her... Hmmmmmm. When I clean the bator out later, since I still haven't opened it cause its just now 24 hrs after hatch time, I'll have to see if ANY of her eggs hatched.

I know chicks in the brooder have to fin a pecking order and I've seen many battles of jumping chest to chest and ontop of one another in the past. But I have 3 week old Sizzle chicks and a few of them are all out teeing each other up!! Pecking and grabbing where a comb would be if they actually had one yet, and dragging each other around, squealing and just going nuts like big chickens would if you just threw a new hen into the mix. What the heck!!!!???!!!

Really big eggs and really small ones usually don't hatch. I had to get rid of some WL because I could not hatch one chick from them since the eggs got too big.

Yeah, I looked at all the shells. NONE of the eggs that hatched were from that hen. Well poop!!!! I just put eggs in the bator yesterday, I'm gonna pull the big ones and switch em out. Grrrrrr

Planning on incubating Turkey, Goose and chicken eggs together in my Hova bator still air, picking up the Turkey and Goose eggs today. I know I can do the Turkey and Chicken in my egg turner but how to position the Goose eggs? there are going to be 6 My plan was to take out 2 or three of the turner trays and just lay the goose eggs on there sides and turn three times a day?? Any better idea's?? Anyone have photo's of what there incubators look like with all three egg types placed together? All I have incubated to date is chickens... I have a couple concerns, I am going to buy another thing to measure temp and humidity today because I know if I lay the goose eggs down the temp would be different for them then at the top of the turkey eggs (which will be in the turner) unless I just don't use the turner at all and turn eggs by hand??

the farm innovator I believe is essentially an LG (Little Giant). aka problematic. the other, I have no clue. looks decent but I don't think it's commonly sold in the US.

Hovabator (GQF) has been around for... 30 years or more, that I know of. LOL GQF stands for Georgia Quail Farm. they ARE breeders, and designed the incubators for their own needs, improving on each from one to the next model. that says a lot more to me than anything else (FI, LG, etc = made in china I think, GQF is still in Georgia, USA.

just too bad there customer service wasn't better as far as calling people back when you have questions .

My turner works but makes a clicking noise. called them 3 times no answer no return calls. I figure if the turner does go out ill go from there.

Update on my litle duckling who decided to hatch a little early. He is al the way out.. went down to find him crawling around dragging the egg behind him.. snuggling with a hatch mate. Who must have been inspired came just a smidge early no yolk sack just a big bump and a little spot of blood. I detached him (he had been 3\4 out all day the membrane had stuck to him in a big ball from kicking. He is down to just a big bump also yolk has made it all the way in. and a 3rd is internally pipped. These were shipped eggs.the early one had a air saddle air cell so big it was hard to belive a duckling was still in there..the only egg that isnKt showing anything is one with a perfect aircell but today is just the start of day 30. So I have already had 50% hopefully all is well in the morning.

I have 20 chicks in my giant brooder that hatched on Monday. The next batch is set to hatch Wednesday. So here's the question...can I put the new babies in with what will be 1 1/2 week old chicks? My brooder is 4'x7' so space isn't really an issue. Do I need to add a divider?

I tried adding when there was two weeks difference and had to separate them the next day, yours might accept the new ones, I would have a divider ready.
