Incubators Anonymous

Patience pays off. Just checked and I heard a tick tick tick...... and after some diligent searching I see...... the 1st crack forming on an egg. What breeds inside could be a serious mix. collected from general flock. Which consist of (Roosters) BA, BSL (BA x BPR) Austra-white. And (Hens) BPR, BPR, SLW, BSL, BA and a mixed Feather footed pretty girl I love looks but no idea her lineage. And lastly she could from a CX pullet. Not out of shell or woods yet, but almost wrote off the whole batch.

Hi All! Its been awhile but I figured I'd join again and admit my "problem", lol

I currently have 3 HB1588's and an FI, All are almost full except for some clears I pulled out last night. I know, I know, what am I thinking leaving open spots for 6 1/2 hours!
The best news is that I ordered a Dickey on Tuesday and it should be her tomorrow!

It has 3 incubating trays and a hatcher however I plan on doing the hatching in the 1588's. I figured if I got desperate for space I could always use the hatcher as an incubator and hand turn twice a day

Great to hear! So looking forward!

After I get it stabilized over the weekend my first eggs will be SFH from BDM. So excited!

Day 20. Woke up to 3 new babies and 13 pips! This will be my biggest hatch at 1 time. Put 20 in the hatcher Tuesday. Good thing there's a swap Saturday!! Lol Already have 10 babies in a brooder, & I'm not keeping any of these.

Question-- Has anyone had a difference in hatchings when hand turning versus an automatic egg turner???

I had already ordered eggs, then had an opportunity to get some more yesterday so I got them without really thinking about it.
I just realized my turner has 42 spots and with extras sent I'm looking at more like 60 eggs, which would easily fit without the turner, but I didn't know if hand turning 3 times a day was as effective.
DH (a total enabler!) told me to just buy a second incubator and egg turner, but we really don't have the money for that.
It figures I spend almost 2 months trying to break my broody because I don't keep roosters and now that I need her to hatch she won't sit!

I broke my rules today..... I NEVER set more than 180 eggs but then hubby said to stop hatching so we can take a trip.... so I set 210 eggs today :th   I am going to be in so much trouble when they hatch.  I had a tray from a project pen.... a whole tray WOW.  Those girls are great layers.  4 girls and I get 4 eggs most days.  I did have to cut back on how many I set.... only set 18 of the 30+ I had.  Can't wait to see what hatches.  I have another project pen and had about 18 eggs from that pen too, that one is a first cross so not expecting anything great this hatch.   Then someone gave me 4 doz Silver Penciled Rock eggs.... I couldn't say no could I?  So my biggest hatch of the year and then a break and then an EVEN BIGGER HATCH LOL.   I don't really HAVE to quit hatching I just needed to change my hatch days LOL.  But he will never figure that out.

I thought i was an incubator addict, until i read this! I love it!!! :)
