Incubators Anonymous

Ducks finished now my BYM & BA's are starting. 1 black BYM out when I checked this AM. Need to shuffle some birds so I can promote older chicks to outside brooder, and make room in brooders for the new arrivals. I have time though... Like a day.

You will still have that problem. TRUST ME. I just took 29 doz eggs to church to give away cuz I didn't have room and no one bought them.
If I have problems after these cabinets that hold over 150 dozen each I'm in serious trouble. As long as I keep my chicken population down at home I'll be fine and I have been doing really well not buying any chickens yet this year and could sell a few more yet. I only have 34 adults and 6 chicks left from all the hatches so far this year.

Question regarding electronic vs. wafer incubators:

Those of you who have used both, what's your experience?

My Brinsea keeps a rock steady temp, but my 2 styros are the subject of this post.

One is electronic, and one uses a wafer.

The one that uses a wafer keeps a mostly steady temperature, with a small amount of adjusting needed every couple of days or so. It also has a fan.

The electronic one drives me crazy. Up and down, up and down. But it doesn't have a fan.

Is it the fan or lack thereof that makes the difference, or is it that the wafer is more reliable?

NONE of my hens will brood.
I had a Rhode Island Red brooding for about 2 weeks, and then it got cold out and she quit...?

pick chronically broody breeds... LOL bantam cochin, dorking, buff orpington, those are what I'm using. silkies also but they don't cover many at once.

I've got a buff orp with 8 chicks around 8-12 weeks old, colored dorking on 25+ sfh chicks, bantam cochin with 4 chicks and 3 bb white turkeys... 2 more Dorkings are broody, one will be getting 20+ production reds tomorrow, the other will be getting whatever hatches from the incubator on Friday.

Sounds like an amazing flock.

I have a beautiful Buff. She has yet to even want to sit. She plops her eggs out wherever she stands, and walks away.

if electroni you are referring to the LG or FI styros, they are very sensitive with big changes occuring with just small movements of the knob

I switch them out for a STC1000 from amazon

i am doing a new one today. I will post pics

of course someone wants to fuel my hatching they don't want chicks right now but in three weeks...and i just mailed eggs off today i do have some hatching a few days earlier... have to check my fertility for selling hatching eggs so i have to put some in every week or so....cracking them open is just a wasted egg
