I don't know what kind a bators you have, Ki4got has some pics of hers. Maybe see will put them up. I use a towel in water. The towel or sponge acts like a wick and will keep putting water in the air.

Can you see the yellow thing in the corner. I have a sponge and a cut terry clothe towel in there. The towel can be draped across the top so that more area is exposed to evaporate the water. I have it near the fan and heat to help that along. Could you fashion something similar on a small scale?

I use a size 10 french feeding tube taped to the side and through the mesh into the reservoir. Then the big end goes out through that little indent for the auto turner cord. I use a 50 cc syringe into the tube, this way I can put lots of water in without having to open the bator. I had these things on-hand but you can get them from vet supply, and I've also heard of people using fish tank tubing or something similar. I like the feeding tube because it is thin and easily fits through the mesh and stays in place pretty well with one piece of tape.

That's a really good idea.

If you know of anybody who goes to the hospital and gets an IV drip - have them ask for the empty sack and the tubing. You can refill the sack and turn them on and off as needed.

All great ideas. The tubing is an awesome idea, but I don't have any on hand. I have this incubator, farm innovators...

I could scrounge a skinny tupperware thingy and put a washcloth in it....but how to make sure the chickies don't drown....let me see what I can come up with....

Piece of wire/mesh/hardware cloth over the top would work. I think I've seen a pic of it somewhere here, lol.

The farm innovator pro is exactly what I have. All the eggs are in cut up cartons at the moment and I have a clear shot to the main well, it's just not straight down. If I can figure out a way to get water down there...

Use a small one with the lid on. Punch a teeny hole in it - or two if you are trying to raise humidity. You could also put a slit with the sponge thru the slit - it will still pull water out of the tupperware. The chicks won't get through the hole. I saw it on this thread earlier. I am reading thru the whole thread to find all tidbits for when I start hatching again.

Make the towel go in the water and if it is big enough cover the mouth of what every you are going to use with a rubber band to hold it on the mouth. That would work as a wick and a cover to keep the chicks out too.

Okay, so took one of those worthless little rubbermaid containers that comes with the assorted pack, I poked holes and put in a wash cloth. You think this will work? I'm aiming for 55% humidity, does that sound right? The first 18 days it was between 21-35%..

You could use a thin straw in the hole where the cord for the turner is. The use a dropper to add water. Me, I have the problem of too much humidity. I can't use the wells at the bottom. I fill up two shot glasses inside. That keeps it where I want it..
