I woke up to a pip this morning!

The humidity had dropped to 45% do I dripped more water in through the vent holes. Now it's around 60%.

When I have a problem keeping humidity up its usually because the room is too dry. I just boil a big pot of water to raise the humidity in the house. Also tampons soaked in water are perfect and they hold alot of water. Just sayin'. ; )

I have a kettle full of water on the stove steaming all day, because it is so dry right now. Tampons are such a great idea! I was "fixed" a years ago though, so don't have any around the house.

My eldest daughter is sick today, so no going to town. Which is great because I can stay home and monitor the humidity,

but is horrible because now I'm tuck here just waiting for something to happen!

Started lockdown thursday night on a batch of barnyard mix....some reds, some sexlink, some from chickens I have no idea what they are, supposed to have been black yokohomas but.....they turned out to look nothing like them (other than being black) but one.....dang it! One of them has feathered legs and lays pretty blueish green eggs, so I think she may be an ameraucana...I want ameraucanas but I wanted the lavenders, so I am still on the lookout for those.

Also got my new HB Genesis 1588 in today

, now just to wait for my turkey eggs to warm up to room temp and the bator to get itself set.

There is a gentleman that will take every chick I hatch for two dollars each. Sooooo..... I can feed my incubating and candling addiction now, on a regular basis, without hearing grief from DH on the amount of chickens I have.

Is there anyone in my area with Cayuga hatching eggs? My drake is very lonely since we lost his mate, so I am looking to get some more.

Really enjoying the beautiful weather in Oklahoma today, spring is right around the corner!!!

I don't know what kind a bators you have, Ki4got has some pics of hers. Maybe see will put them up. I use a towel in water. The towel or sponge acts like a wick and will keep putting water in the air.

Can you see the yellow thing in the corner. I have a sponge and a cut terry clothe towel in there. The towel can be draped across the top so that more area is exposed to evaporate the water. I have it near the fan and heat to help that along. Could you fashion something similar on a small scale?

mine aren't anything special... just picture window hovabators (3) with (computer) fans added. incubators have auto turners in them. the hatcher (4th hovabator picture window w/ fan) i line with paper towel and then use a rectangular bowl (about 4 cup size disposable) with 1/2" hardware cloth shaped lid to provide humidity, and hatch the eggs in slightly tilted paper egg crates.
