Yay!!! Wow, I wondered what happened to her and was thinking the worst. I am so glad she is on the mend, scorpion poison is no joke.

She went back to the coop tonight! YAY! It was a rough 10 days - she didn't eat a thing for 3 days straight and we were sure we were going to lose her. Night before last we had her outside so she could be around the other chickens but when they went to the coop she came up to the back door and called to us - she wasn't ready to go to the coop yet. She is a little wobbly when she walks, but she's doing great. I really don't have to worry about the other hens picking on her because she's our roo's favorite. LOL. I sure love my girls.

I set 5 serama eggs 20 days ago. Now you can't just do 5 eggs, right, so I threw in 9 misc mutt eggs from my son's old hens. Well on day 7 none of the serama were good (young roo) but wouldn't you know all but 1 of the mutts took. This morning we had a power outage and temps dropped to 73.Tonight figuring they had gotten to cold, I candled and got movement in all 8(2 are tapping away). I do believe these little guys were meant to hatch.At least 1 will be named Lucky...

The girls chicks will get to stay. My son's hens are between 2-4 yrs and are all rescues. Some came back from the poor treatment but 5 aren't laying at all. The chicks will be replacements for the non producers.

How about Fortuna (the Latin goddess of Luck) for a girl? Nike the goddess of Victory? Or Victoria?

Two springs ago I went to check my sheep and one of my older ewes was having trouble delivering a large lamb. She had got stuck with just the hooves and the nose sticking out. She would strain and then turn around and look for the lamb and couldn't figure out why there wasn't a lamb on the ground. I had to chase her all over the pen and finally she slipped and I caught her. I straddled her so she wouldn't run again and pulled the lamb. I held the little ewe lamb while she turned around and sniffed the lamb with her huge eyes looking at me like I was a goddess and had just performed a miracle. She began talking to the lamb (they talk to their babies in a special sound just like chicken mommas do) and licking her clean. It was the morning of the second day of Spring. My daughter told me I should name her for Persephone, Greek goddess of Spring, who returned from the Underworld on the first day of Spring.

I like Fortuna. It better much classier than my son's (he is 4) current favorite Flat Butt the leghorn. What was I thinking when I told him he could name them..lol

must be a guy thing... hubby named my last two stud colts... granted after explanations their names make sense, but at first, you're thinking... wha?
that would be Dingle, and Dinker. Dingle's momma is blind, so he wore a bell... Dinker was just tiny (aka dinky)...

no pics of dingle, unfortunately... hard drive crash wiped all those and most of the dinker pics.

this is Dinker at a day old. (no the cat is not possessed.)
