Incubators Anonymous

well I just lost a whole hatch. I put them in lockdown yesterday and today after 4 degree night it was OFF all night. I will try but I don't think there is any hope for them......dang.

Sorry to hear that, that is upsetting.
I will hope you better luck next time.
I know some of the expensive facilities use UPSs on the incubators, I wonder if one could
hack one up out of a deep cycle battery and an old computer UPS.......

I don't have high hopes.... it was 4 last night and the room is not heated but has the heat of the brooders and incubator to heat the room but not enough to keep them alive. I did turn it back on and will check them tomorrow. No movement in the ones I looked at and they were cold.

It was not a lack of electricity the switch was accidentally turned off. It is in the wrong place.... near a walkway and can be brushed with a coat and turned off.

Oooops!
Can't help with that problem!
I might be moving or changing the switch after such a setback....

ki4got, I was pretty sure that is all it would take to make a bigger UPS since I think they float charge the batteries
and the common foam incubators are only 40 watt heating elements so I think it would work well.

Glad they were not your eggs. I looked at them today and they are looking good. Wonky air cell but they are developing ok anyway. I will check them again in a few days. I tossed 2 that were really clear the rest are unclear but looked good. I will let you know.

cool... well there's more where they came from anyhow...

ok hubby says it's the inverter that's the limiting factor... a bigger battery will last longer than the inverter's capable of running without blowing the finals in it...
I have 2 huge truck batteries and a 2000w inverter in my egg room. I have a chinese made power alarm that squeals if we lose power in the middle of the night or if we are working outdoors.

I also have a 1000w APC UPS that I wired to a marine battery in my house and have LED emergency lights hooked up to it. It will power 30 watts all night no problem.
