Incubators Anonymous

Ya'll. I am going to cry.

I am on day 8, 37 eggs - 1 that I think is clear.

Power went off at 4am. Finally at 9am, I was able to plug the incubator in in my van. It was at 70 degrees and had been since at least 7am, possibly earlier. Power came back on at 10:15 and as of 11:30, the incubator was back up to temp.

Are my eggs all goners?

I candled them last night and traced air cells, etc. so they had already cooled down during that :(

ive got 40 duck and turkey eggs in the bator and they're still kicking after a 106 and 104 degree spike from being to close to the wood burner. And 12 hrs of 65 degree temps from a power outage here. I would just wait it out and I bet theyll be ok.

From what I read I think you may have a chance here it takes some time for the eggs to cool internally. I hope so!! crossin my paws for you.

What are you hatching Gimme? go go go chicks!

So I set 150 eggs last week and just like I though most are fertile this time.

I think I am down to 120 maybe a little less. I have another 180 to set this week if someone does not buy the eggs I have on the Just in time thread in my siggie. I know most are fertile this time....

I MUST get the big hatcher working. My reg hatcher can not really handle 180 as well. We are going to move some furniture out of my hubbys shop. maybe paint and start moving my stuff in. Then I can test run the new hatcher after I trim it out with some paint. I don't want to get overwhelmed with chicks this year...... that was BAD last year.

I'm gonna have to watch myself too..I can see where I'm headed.... I am plum turkey crazy. I need to decide on 3 or 5 (haha) breeds and stick to that starting out.

I have some shipped eggs in my incubator that were pretty badly handled in the post. The box was badly damaged but the eggs were whole ...... they are very dark coloured eggs so really hard to see what's going on inside but certainly in one I could see a very mobile air cell.
They have been in the incubator 9 days now and a few of them have little yellowy crystals forming on the outside of the eggs. I have never seen this before but I am guessing it's not a good sign?

those eggs were probably scrambled in shell.

sniff them - if they are funky get them out of your bator gently and dispose of carefully - they could make a very nasty, smelly mess
