Incubators Anonymous

Oh I have to secong the turner...mine died in the middle sometime on some ameracauna chicks, dorking, duck. I always added water checked on it the same time didn't notice for a few days. Maybe up to 5. Anyway no chicks made it ,quit ,sticky, malpostioned etc. So far 2 ducklings requieing special care pipped wrong end thru blood vessel, and right in the middle thru blood vessel. Those 2 are stable one is half hatched the other is still week it had just a head out right in the middle of the egg for a whole day. I float tested tonight I have 2 possibles left... so out of 7 shipped eggs with the turner issue . I had. 1 quit late, 2 toatally upside down 1 died, 2 pip below air cell 1alive , so } am up on duckling watch

Stacking was not an option this. No room to close the bator. So I pulled the turner for now and I will be hand turn the eggs. At least until we have 7 that can be removed...... DH did agree with me I did not expect to win all 4 auctions and even with winning all 4 auctions we expected a few broken eggs. I will be hand turning the eggs for either 10 days or for 24 days.......

you could also toss any with really bad aircells.....like completely detatched. I never had any luck with those, despite reading about the success of others.

We have 12 that DH is not sure about. He is the one that can tell if an egg is worth the space. he wants to give them until Monday to see if they develop better or not. If they shows good signs of development I will be hand turning and if not they will go and the turner will be back in. lol

studies show that the more often you turn your eggs, the better the hatch.

a turner makes it so much more practical.

I bought a used hovabator with an egg Turner. 12 hours into it the motor died. I spent the next 18 days putting a coffee tin under it from side to side 3 to 5 times a day-had an amazing hatch rate. I think just having the eggs propped up in it made the difference as before that I was hand turning them all. Yes it's easier to have a turner but you can also just put them in egg cartons. I had in it my dining room and it was easy to turn frequently and make sure it was a different side each night.

My original turn died back last summer. It turned about 6 times a day. Since then I have been turning by hand.... only once a day.... if my hatch rate were any higher my husband would kill me. Not sure I could get them any higher. Most of my hatches are way up in the 90% and higher range. Only shipped eggs are lower usually.

I have my cousins incubator and he had several successful hatches without the turner. I'd just rather nor spend the forty bucks unless I have to

Turkeytruff.... So u put the cartons in the incubator and tilt the incubator side to side throughout the day?
