O.k. Thank you!Pinkchick is in Washington State. She might be able to help you in the fall. She lost most of her flock to a Mt Lion and is rebuilding.

LOL well if that's the case, I don't know that I have ANY that count... all the cochins are considered projects since they are so far from SOP, SFH aren't recognized variety, neither are blrw or EE...
I heard you should wait until the hen lays regular to set their eggs. Something to do with the egg size is too small for the chick. I wanted to do that with my last hatch with my blue copper marans first egg. She laid it the day I was setting eggs, so I did a quick search here. Her eggs will be going in next hatch, hopefully in a week or 2. I am on a waiting list for some eggs.I got 18 jumbo coturnix in the bator. I also got the first ever egg laid on our little farm in there(along with some of its egg siblings) . Taylor(12) paid 20$ for a pair of self blue oegb, might as well put some of those in the bator too.

You don't want to hatch TINY eggs. Usually the eggs will get to a good size pretty quick. I hatch pullet eggs all the time with no issues. Some pullets just don't really lay pullet eggs. I got 2 really small eggs from my Cuckoo Marans pen the other week and nothing since. When they start they will probably be an ok size to hatch. I don't usually get eggs that small from pullets. Maybe it is the breeds I have.... IDK.
The first egg laid here not the hen's first!!! We just moved and bought this place. The hen was laying before and they are normal oegb sized eggs. Sorry for the confusion. The pair is from a last years hatch, just under a year and the roo was dubbed and almost completely healed.(he is now)I heard you should wait until the hen lays regular to set their eggs. Let us know how her first egg turns out.
