humidity is going to jump way up in a small incubator with hatching chicks it does that to me every time as well, this time I tried to keep my lockdown humidity lower by not adding as much water and it did help a little, but my windows are still full of condensation and I cannot see in well. That happens because the hatching chicks and the insides of the shells are wet and it adds all that water to the air. I do not nor would I take the top off to wipe down the water, you could lose too much humidity and end up losing some of the remaining chicks to sticky chick. I have not had any ill effect from the higher humidity during lockdown.

I am not worried about taking the top for a few mins. That humidity is too high can makes it hard for them to breath. She still has water in the bator and more chicks to hatch. She is only half way through. 5-6 chicks out and I think I gave her more than 12 eggs. So it will go back up quick when they start hatching.

well my last hatch I had to open it up and get a chick unstuck from my hygrometer, it was quite wet inside and the humidity didn't come back very fast at all, I didn't have anything to mist the inside with at the time so I just went with it. As I said I have not yet lost a chick from the high moisture, I have seen them panting some but that is only right after hatch when they are tired anyways, once they get their bearings and fluff up they breath fine, I also lower the temp a little that helps them breath too.

My incubator has been steadily running since January...

I heard peeping this morning... Maybe it will finally be turned off in a couple of days. (Boy will my husband be happy!)

Of course, I did pick up some quail last weekend - so it may not be off that long...

I have a plastic tub that looks decent.








I also just finished this metal tub a couple days ago. Nothing in it now, but there will be tomorrow or the next day. It would look pretty good if it wasn't so rusty. I need to paint it with something so it doesn't look so awful.






I also have two metal tubs that are about 4 foot long by 2 foot wide by 1 foot deep. They are in good shape, and I need to get them converted into brooders sometime in the next few months.
