btw how do you like that incubator?

Love it! I got it specifically so I could use it for shipped eggs. My hatch rate is double in the Brinsea compared to the styros.

That's really good to know...I am now just looking for my first one, and personality dictates that I research it until I find the best one. However, I do have power restrictions, as I'm off the grid, but there are ways of getting around that.

I have a Brinsea also and it's the best. Just wish they were a little cheaper so I could get a bigger one as it's too small for me. I just bought 2 Sportsmans cabinets lastnight for $650 and have 4 Jamesway industrial bators besides 3 home made ones.

I love healthy hatches. So far I have done 3 hatches. Two were successful, though the rate was poor. From the first hatch (The Littles) almost a month old now, there were 7 babies, three didn't make it, and 13 didn't hatch.

Second hatch (The Bards), 8 chicks and a gosling hatched, but two chicks were murdered by the others... They will be a week old tomorrow.

I have one gosling in the incubator who internally pipped yesterday! Today is hatch day!!! I am listening to it now as she peeps away inside.

Two more goslings due to hatch next week! Hope they make it past lockdown.

Im actually trying to start a small hatchery at the moment. My first bator was the Brinsea Eco 20 with turner and it has more than payed for itself. I've tried many different brands and it is the best.

oh good on ya...if I could make money while doing something I love...how great how great would that be. Only time will tell.

One of my turkeys is dragging around a long bloody mass of *something* that's hanging out of it's butt. Is that something to be concerned about? I never saw anything like that with chicks.

Picture? Yes, dragging anything besides the membrane (which is often pink tinted with white and green and sometimes yellow smear and is effectively the umbilical cord) is bad. At the minimum, the risk is that it will get caught and pulled and "unzip" the navel. Worst case, it's unzipped already and pulled the intestine. However, intestine isn't usually bloody, so it's probably umbilical cord. If it is actively bleeding, did you assist in the hatch?

Show a pic, you may want/need to snip it within 1/2" of the navel if it is indeed just the remnants of the membrane. It should not bleed, if it does, squeeze gently with a tissue for a minute or use a little styptic to seal it. The remainder will dry up and drop off.

Just received my 32 Lavender Orp eggs in the mail, all 32 are intact, tonight I will candle for cracks and air cells and tomorrow I will set them. Then....
i'm waiting for my 12+ Easter Eggers to come in the mail and I will add them to the LO batch. It will work out that, lockdown for the EEs is hatch day for the LO. Good thing I have two incubators.....
Should I get a 3rd....
