Incubators Anonymous

I just claimed some quail in a swap just for the heck of it....I do have quail water bases from hatching bantam's so it is justified ....

and i have a ferret cage the 3 or 4 level one. it is almost 5 foot tall .worked great for extended brooding bantams last winter when is stayed below zero until April..make a frame plywood back & roof should work good for a few quail getting 16 eggs so I figure 6-8 hatch just little cornix ./ Japanese

I officially am retiring the incubation obsession untill fall when my own lavenders are laying. I spent way too much on these eggs and to candle them tonight and out 16 eggs, 12 made it to my trashcan. Im soo disapointed. This my 2nd bas hatch after 3 really great ones.
Ugh soo frustrated.
I will post pictures in the morning. Getting some sleep.
Night all

Quote: I just love this picture! I never knew the chicks would hop on mama's back until I had my own broody. I love when they do it. (Poor hen gets poop on her back, but she's so patient.) Yours must be very tame to enjoy cuddles while being broody.

So sorry..and yes VERY frustrating...especially if you are dealing with shipped eggs! This is my first time dealing with shipped eggs and WOW is it stressful! Crossing fingers it all goes well...I am having my broody hatch them and wanted bantam cochin eggs...couldn't find any locally so trying with shipped eggs

Heres the picture, it kind of looks like a lima bean

Gertrude likes to lay in the milk crate instead of the nestboxes.
